**DESCRIPTION**:
The Behaviour Consultant provides ABA based services within an interdisciplinary framework to children, youth and adults with developmental disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorder who may also be dually diagnosed. Services are community based and are provided under the direction and conditions of the Developmental Services Act, and the Child and Family Services Act and Ministry Guidelines. (The Standards for the Use of Behavioural Training and Treatment Procedures in Settings for Developmentally Handicapped Persons (1987). These services include assessment, treatment and therapeutic programming, clinical consultation, program evaluation, training, education and research activities within a variety of community settings, including home, group homes and day programs.

Promotes quality improvement in all endeavours and supports safety initiatives, to minimize risk and strive for optimal organizational performance and safety benefiting staff, clients, their families, volunteers, visitors and the community.

Works in compliance with the law and with safe work practices and policies established by CHEO to maintain a safe work environment.

***:

- Develop, monitor, and evaluate therapeutic treatment programs based in Applied Behaviour Analysis. This can include completing a functional assessment, teaching replacement behaviour, training mediators in response strategies, andutilizing techniques such as crisis intervention, environmental assessment, and life skills training.
- Develop and provide mediator training to direct care staff, families, and other professional or para-professional staff.
- Develop and provide formal staff training in dealing effectively with problem behaviour such as managing severely aggressive, life-threatening, and sexually inappropriate behaviour.
- Maintain linkages with community agencies and educational organizations.
- Train and supervise special services at home workers and student placements from university and college programs.
- Provide consultation services to individuals and groups such as: clients, relatives, professional associations, agency staff, mental health workers, and physicians including psychiatrists.
- Participate in interdisciplinary teams, committees and task forces.
- Participate in psychological research projects related to the understanding of mental and behavioural disorders and the evaluation of treatment programs.
- Prepare and maintain formal documentation including assessment reports, treatment plans, program plans, guidelines, program review summaries, and termination summaries.
- Ongoing professional development.
- Adhere to the best practice model service delivery.
- Because of the changing nature of the job and the job requirements, duties and responsibilities may be added or deleted from time to time.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Vulnerable Sector Check. (Essential)
- Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science with concentration in Psychology. (Essential)
- Board Certified Behaviour Analyst. (preferred)
- Two years recent related experience in a behaviour consultant position or equivalent experience (e.g., five years recent experience in Applied Behavioural Analysis in community program for persons with a developmental delay). (Essential)
- Clinical skills that demonstrate competence in assessment with children, youths and adults and their families. (Essential)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills. (Essential)
- Knowledge of community resources for children, youths and adults with special needs. (preferred)
- Ability to provide services in a culturally sensitive environment. (Essential)
- Valid Ontario’s driver’s license, access to a vehicle and the ability to travel from site to site and to multiple community based visits on a daily basis is required. (Essential)
- **Bilingualism (French/English). (preferred)**
