**Job Description**:
DESCRIPTION

The child life specialist will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team within Neurodevelopmental Health (NDH) to help support, facilitate, and ensure the success of children/youth/families accessing the Extensive needs services (ENS). The child life specialist will also collaborate with the NDH team to create a screening tool.

The child life specialist will provide opportunities for therapeutic and leisure play, promote optimum development of children and youth, and help patients and families adjust to and understand health care experiences. As part of the inter-professional team, the child life specialist will prepare and support children and youth during medical tests and procedures. This position involves evening and weekend hours.- Assess the psychosocial needs of patients and families using theories of human growth and development and family systems.- Assess patient’s development level, temperament and coping style and provide a variety of play and therapeutic activities which promote self-expression, understanding, and mastery of medical experiences.- Plan group processes while incorporating individual therapeutic goals to match patient needs.- In collaboration with the inter-professional team, develop individual treatment plans in accordance with prognosis, limitations, disease process, nature of illness, and available social supports.- Organize and prepare activity areas to promote therapeutic activities taking into consideration a variety of mobility needs and a wide age span.- Use developmentally appropriate medical teaching tools to prepare patients, siblings, and families for diagnostic and treatment procedures.- Provide emotional support during intensified stress points and utilize stress reduction techniques to facilitate adaptive coping.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential)
- Baccalaureate in Child Life, Child and Family Studies, Therapeutic Recreation or related field (Essential)
- Current Child Life Certification (CCLS) through Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) (Essential)
- Bilingualism (English/French) (Essential)
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a pediatric health care setting (Essential)
- Experience working with a neurodiverse population of children and youth (preferred)

DESCRIPTION

Le ou la spécialiste du milieu de l’enfant fera partie intégrante de l’équipe multidisciplinaire de santé neurodéveloppementale afin de soutenir, de faciliter et d’assurer la réussite des enfants, des jeunes et des familles ayant accès aux services pour enfants et adolescents à besoins exceptionnels. La personne qui occupera ce poste collaborera également avec l’équipe de santé neurodéveloppementale pour créer un outil de dépistage.

Le ou la titulaire fournira des occasions de jeux thérapeutiques et ludiques, encouragera le développement optimal des enfants et des adolescents, et aidera les patients et les familles à s’adapter à leurs expériences de santé et à les comprendre. Partie intégrante de l’équipe multidisciplinaire, il ou elle préparera et soutiendra les enfants et les adolescents en vue des tests médicaux et des interventions afférentes. Ce poste requiert de travailler en soirée et fin de semaine.

RÉSUMÉ DES FONCTIONS- Évaluer les besoins psychosociaux des patients et de leur famille à l’aide des théories sur la croissance humaine, le développement et les systèmes familiaux.- Évaluer le niveau de développement du patient, son tempérament, son style d’adaptation et fournir toute une gamme d’activités thérapeutiques et ludiques visant à promouvoir l’expression de soi, la compréhension et la maîtrise des expériences médicales.- Planifier des processus à vivre en groupe tout en y incorporant des objectifs thérapeutiques individuels qui correspondent aux besoins des patients.- De concert avec l’équipe multidisciplinaire, élaborer des plans de traitement individuels en conformité avec le pronostic, les limites, l’évolution et la nature de la maladie, ainsi que la disponibilité des moyens de soutiens sociaux.- Organiser des aires d’activités afin de faciliter les activités thérapeutiques qui tiennent compte de besoins divers de mobilité et d’une vaste fourchette d’âges.- Utiliser des outils de développement et d’enseignement médical spécifiques en vue de préparer les patients, leurs frères et sœurs et leur famille aux interventions de diagnostic et de traitement.- Apporter un soutien émotionnel pendant les périodes de stress intense et utiliser des techniques d’atténuation du stress pour aider les patients à s’adapter à leur condition de vie.
