Job Description:
The Speech-Language Pathologist will provide a range of client-focused interventions for children, youth, and their families at CHEO and in the community. This will include education, assessment, parent directed programs, individual and group treatment, mediated therapy and consultation to parents and caregivers. Responsibilities will include services for clients in the areas of speech, language, fluency, and include families whose primary language is not French or English. The SLP will be specialized in the evaluation and treatment of patients with neurodevelopmental needs including but not limited to autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactive disorder, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, and developmental language disorders. The SLP will be working closely with the multidisciplinary team to determine appropriate approach to care and needs of the patient.

**MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of individuals using appropriate tools to diagnose speech sounds and oral-motor difficulties, language, and communication disorders with neurodevelopmental conditions-
- Develop and implement individualized therapy plans that focus on unique needs & strengths of the patients; organize short and long terms goals;-
- Utilize evidence-based interventions to address communication challenges, including speech sounds disorders, language delays, social ,communication difficulties and augmentative and alternate (ACC) needs.-
- Monitor and document patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to ensure effective outcomes-
- Conduct feeding and swallowing assessments; identify and manage dysphagia using appropriate treatment; educate and counsel patients and their families about safe swallowing practices-
- Provide counseling and advice to family/caregivers, educators, and/or health care professionals-
- Make referrals to other services and professionals as warranted, working with other professionals to identify patient’s needs and maximize appropriate service delivery-
- Conduct individual and group treatment sessions, as well as regular reassessments; monitor progress to update goals-
- Recommend and design tasks for skill transfer to home/school, provide mediator training and parent education, using videos for teaching, and documenting progress-
- Consult collaboratively with professionals involved in the patient’s care-
- Identify children that are at risk or have communication, cognitive, and/or feeding/swallowing difficulties-
- Conduct assessment of children in settings outside the clinical environment-
- Create appropriate home and daycare programming as needed-
- Communicate and work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team, patient, family/caregivers on the child’s needs and appropriate interventions-
- Present information at multi-disciplinary meetings, medical clinic rounds, and other various meetings-
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisorQUALIFICATIONS- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology (Essential)-
- Registration with College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) (Essential)-
- Minimum two (2) years' experience in the field of Speech Language Pathology (Essential)-
- Two (2) years of experience with children and youth with autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays and/or other neurodevelopmental conditions and children and youth presenting with challenging behaviours (preferred)-
- ‘It Takes Two to Talk’ (Hanen Centre) trained and certified (preferred)-
- Lidcombe Program Fluency Training (preferred)-
- Strength in teamwork and communication skills (Essential)-
- Excellent time management and organizational skills (Essential)-
- Willingness to work flexible hours (Essential)-
- Comprehensively use relevant computer technology and communication devices (Essential)-
- Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle (Essential)-
