**About Ross Farm Museum**: Ross Farm Museum, located in the scenic village of New Ross, Nova Scotia, is a living history museum that offers visitors a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience life on a working farm in the 19th century. Our dedicated team is committed to preserving and sharing the rich agricultural heritage of Nova Scotia. We are currently seeking a passionate and talented individual to join us on this journey as the Site Manager.

**Position Overview**: As a Site Manager, you are responsible for providing leadership and management to the farm program and the maintenance and technical aspects of site operation at Ross Farm Museum. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Manager of Programs, and the Manager of Finance and Administration, you will oversee a core group of staff involved in historical interpretation covering a wide variety of heritage skills.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Site Management**:Work closely with Government of Nova Scotia partners to prepare annual site maintenance and construction plans and oversee their implementation ensuring compliance to budget and time constraints and the historical accuracy of the work.
- **Staff Oversight**:Undertake the supervision of all front-line historical interpreters in the areas of domestic, farm, and traditional trades.
- **Health and Safety**: Ensure enterprise-wide adoption of the Health and Safety plan and procedures, to ensure the health and safety of employees and visitors to the Museum.
- **Crop and Animal Husbandry**: Oversee the planning of crop and animal husbandry operations at the farm; including annual cropping plans, animal health and welfare (feeding, health and breeding), and the purchase and sale of livestock for the Farm.
- **Interpretation**: Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship in the heritage skills demonstrated at the farm; including, coopering, heritage woodworking, blacksmithing, while ensuring historical accuracy. When required, engage with visitors to the museum, providing informative and interactive demonstrations of heritage skills and their historical context.
- **Contract work**:Oversee the development, budgeting, work planning and delivery of products and service to our outside clients in the area of heritage carpentry and coopering projects.
- **Versatility**: Willingness to lend a hand with other museum operations and tasks on-site.
- **Language Skills**: The working language is English.

**Qualifications**:

- At least 15 years experience in the management of agricultural operations and traditional and modern animal and crop husbandry practices.
- Experience in the preparation of annual maintenance plans for complex sites that includes the restoration and maintenance of heritage buildings.
- 10 years experience in the management of staff in an institutional environment, including performance management, and OH&S system.
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems including HVAC and heat pumps, experience in the operation and maintenance of motors of all types, and of heritage farm tools and modern farm power equipment.
- Training and experience in maintenance and construction, and in particular certifications in fall arrest, scaffolding, confined space entry.
- Competency and at least 10 years experience in the demonstration or practice of heritage skills (i.e., coopering, blacksmithing, heritage carpentry).
- Experience and ability to work at heights and to lift heavy weights.
- Experience with, or knowledge of, care and handling of museum collections.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with visitors of all ages.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to historical interpretation, particularly related to the early 19th century to early 20th century rural life.
- Excellent team-building skills.
