**Job Title: Manager - Hearth Room Café**
**Location**: Ross Farm Museum, Nova Scotia
**Position Type**:Full-time, Seasonal (May to October)
**Reports to**: Lead Administrative Officer of the Museum and/or Executive Director
**Summary**:
**Key Responsibilities**:
1. Operational Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Hearth Room Café, including opening and closing procedures, food preparation, and cleanliness.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the café.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures to optimize efficiency and streamline operations.
2. Menu Development and Food Preparation:
- Develop and update the café menu, ensuring a diverse selection of light fare including soups, sandwiches, and beverages to cater to the needs and preferences of museum visitors.
- Oversee food preparation and presentation to ensure quality and consistency.
- Monitor food costs and manage inventory to minimize waste and optimize profitability.
3. Staff Management:
- Recruit, train, and supervise café staff; including, servers, and cashiers.
- Schedule staff shifts and coordinate timesheets and payroll together with the museum's administrative officer.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, providing ongoing feedback and support to staff members.
4. Customer Service:
- Ensure excellent customer service by greeting visitors warmly, addressing any concerns or complaints promptly, and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere in the café.
- Monitor customer feedback and implement improvements to enhance the overall café experience.
5. Financial Management:
- Develop and manage the cafe's budget in coordination with the museum's administrative officer.
- Track revenue and expenses using the museum's existing accounting system and prepare regular financial reports.
- Identify opportunities to increase revenue and implement cost-saving measures where possible.
6. Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the museum's lead administrative officer to coordinate café operations with other museum activities and events.
- Communicate effectively with museum staff, volunteers, and visitors to promote the café and encourage patronage.
**Qualifications**:
- Post-secondary training in culinary arts/pastry/baking.
- Previous experience in food service, preferably in a café or restaurant setting.
- Training and experience in the of a food-service business.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in food handling and preparation.
- Financial acumen and experience with budgeting, inventory management, and cost control.
- Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to providing exceptional service.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as required.
