The Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist, reporting to the Vocational Team Lead, National VR (CTL), is accountable for achieving excellence in the effective, efficient and consistent execution of vocational services pertaining to Vocational Evaluation/Vocational Interests Aptitude services they are performing.

- Assess and evaluate rehabilitation needs and potential on an ongoing basis through in-depth personal interviews and review of medical conditions and functional abilities.
- Assess employment barriers and provide vocational coaching to develop suitable return-to-work plans that may include work assessments, return to work plans and planning, re-training programs, on-the-job training, job search and self-employment support, and job development activities
- Assess the potential for early intervention involving a wide range of rehabilitation and return to work strategies such as graduated return to work, psychological counselling, physiotherapy, mental health activation or pain management through file review, phone and onsite interviews with claimants, policy holders, employers, unions and health care providers using professional and motivational interviewing techniques
- Within approved limits, monitor rehabilitation-related expenditures to ensure fees incurred are consistent with the approved rehabilitation budget.
- Responsible for the assessment of participants by utilizing a series of assessment instruments to measure a client’s academic performance; learning capabilities; skills and interests to provide vocational recommendations.
- Administer, score, and interpret vocational/psychometric tests including: Academic, Aptitude, Education, IQ, Personality, Vocational Interest and other standardized tests to evaluate worker’s or claimant’s current level of social and emotional functioning and their potential for further education and employment aptitudes
- Analyze assessment data and results, along with interview/client background history to develop recommendations, following the hierarchy of vocational rehabilitation, for occupational alternatives for the client. Communicates alternative employment options via a comprehensive report and communication with the referral source, and to the client, if approved by the referral source
- Establish contact and maintain comfortable professional rapport with injured worker or Claimant throughout the entire vocational assessment process including appointment scheduling, interviewing, test administration and follow-up, if required
- Establish and maintain rapport with the referral source to clarify any questions, request additional information, provide report and status updates and to provide overall progress updates regarding service/assessment/request
- Conduct personal interview with injured worker or claimant to evaluate transferable skills and identify any potential return to work barriers as well as to understand and evaluate employment history, skills, and medical background. Interview includes observing the client during interview and assessment to note any behaviours that could influence testing measures.
- Identify transferable skills in the context of current job market trends and opportunities
- Research appropriate alternate suitable occupations (direct entry or with additional training/education) for worker based on current vocational test profile using the NOC (National Occupation Code System), Working in Canada, Career Counselling professionals and other appropriate resources
- Present test results in a comprehensive written report. Strong Reporting skills - synthesis, research, information gathering, reporting, professional writing
- Extract and document complex medical/functional information obtained from clients’ medical briefs
- Conduct labour market research to ensure alternate occupations are confirmed to be a match to the
- Access to reliable transportation as travel will be required on an as needed basis

**What you need to be successful**
- Completion of a post-secondary education program in Psychology, Vocational Rehabilitation or other related field with applicable post-secondary education, training and experience
- Minimum of 2 years working as a Vocational Assessor or Rehabilitation Professional
- Superior oral and written communication skills
- Superior interpersonal skills and ability to quickly identify, assess and accommodate assessment environment to ensure comfort is maintained for worker or claimant
- VRA Member
- CVRP, CCVE, RRP or other related professional designation and/or eligibility to obtain designation would be an asset
- Previous experience in the completion of Transferable Skills Analysis, Vocational Evaluations, Vocational Testing and/or Labour Market Surveys is an asset
- Knowledge/familiarity with the NOC Career Handbook and relevant provincial websites to obtain specific employment-related information is a strong asset
