**JOB SUMMARY**

The Human Resource (HR) Generalist & Chief Returning Officer (CRO) is responsible for leading the organizations HR functions, which includes recruitment and employee engagement, performance management, labour/employee relations, learning & development, health & safety, benefits/compensation, HR planning, and onboarding. This position is also responsible for the supervision of the front desk service staff and general operational tasks. In addition, the HR Generalist also acts as the organization's CRO for all related student elections.

Note: This role is located at our Oshawa, Ontario office (North campus). This role is offered to cover for a Maternity Leave. The anticipated start date is as soon as possible until February 14, 2025.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Human Resources**:

- Maintains accurate, up-to-date, and complete personnel records and documentation including HR information and related records systems in compliance with all applicable legislation;
- Leads the development and implementation of all HR related correspondence, policies, reports, proposals, job descriptions, and other employment documentation as directed by the Executive Director;
- Leads the full-cycle recruitment process, which may include posting jobs, screenings resume, interviewing and hiring employees, and completing exit interview;
- Performs the orientation/onboarding of new hires and assist in the training of all employees;
- Responsible to new staff IT setup, including technology and accounts;
- Supports managers in initiation, tracking and filing of annual performance appraisals and mid-year check-ins;
- Conducts investigations and lead appropriate responses to formal or informal complaints related to Human Resources practices or grievances;
- Participates and provides support to the organizations JHSC and;
- Acts as back-up for payroll processing.

**Operations**:

- Provides the day-to-day supervision of the Customer Service Representatives (CSR) staff;
- Sets and maintains the schedule for the CSR team;
- Selects and hires the CSR team;
- Develops and provides job specific training for CSR team;
- Approves CSR timesheets; and
- Coordinates with University staff on the completion of IT and maintenance requests.

**Chief Returning Officer and Governance**
- Oversee the planning and execution of the annual elections;
- Coordinates the Elections Committee including scheduling meetings and preparing and presenting reports/informational updates;
- Coordination of other OTSU staff in the execution of election-related events and marketing; and
- Assists Executive Director with Board of Director and standing committee activities including; secretarial duties (i.e. Meeting Minutes, Agenda Prep, Committee organization), and annual general meeting planning.

**REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS**

**Education**:

- Degree or Diploma in Human Resources Management or Business Administration Human Resources; or a combination of education and experience.
- Completed CHRP designation or equivalent.

**Experience**:

- 2 years experience in human resources;
- Experience working in a unionized environment; and
- Experience working in the Post-Secondary sector an asset.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Knowledge of relevant Employment legislation (Employment Standards Act, Ontario Labour Code, etc.);
- Knowledgeable about unionized working environments and working with Collective Agreements;
- Demonstrated strong computer skills working with MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint);
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain personal credibility and broad relationships; strong integrity with ability to maintain confidentiality and manage highly sensitive information; and
- Pro-active self-starter; able to work well independently with mínimal supervision.
