**General Accountability**:
- This posting is for current and upcoming opportunities which may involve working various shifts/off days and various work reporting locations.- These positions are responsible for supervising the work performed by hourly-rated employees in the Subway and SRT Track section that involves the rehabilitation, maintenance, and construction of all subway and SRT track-related work. The incumbent also supervises the work performed by external contractors. The incumbent assists the Senior Foreperson in the co-ordination, planning and scheduling of the track work. They may conduct training sessions, investigations, inspections and quality audits. The role also entails administrative tasks such as timekeeping, preparing and maintaining records, generating reports, summaries, etc. related to the work.**Key Job Functions**:
- Inspecting and maintaining track switches, lubrication of rails and switch cleaning
- Maintaining the general cleanliness and/or weed control right-of-way
- Maintaining signs, rail lubricators, rail joint slotting, etc.
- Inspecting and repairing reaction rails and power rails
- Bonding/welding of subway rail
- Removing snow, salting and sanding TTC properties
- Placing rail and track accessories on site, and placing rails in position for welding
- Visually inspecting passing rolling stock for dragging or defective equipment
- Scheduling refuse collection from Commission properties
- Making traction power cuts as required
- Ensuring that switches are free of ice and snow and lubricated with anti-freeze during the cold months
- Monitoring and reporting project budgets to enable corrective action to be taken
- Supervising external suppliers of haulage services to ensure compliance with TTC guidelines
- Assigning and scheduling various pieces of equipment including locomotives, rail grinding cars, tamping cars, trucks, flat cars, cranes, front end loaders, and other specialized track maintenance equipment; ensuring that Commission vehicles are available for servicing
- Ensuring that the schedules developed by the Senior Foreperson are maintained and that the work carried out safely and in accordance with standard practice, and that material is on site as required
- Recommending and implementing new improvements to equipment and/or methods of work
- Completing written reports, or reporting verbally, concerning employees, activities, equipment, etc.
- Reviewing the section’s immediate and projected manpower and equipment requirements with the Senior Foreperson; developing annual vacation schedules
- Administering discipline and promoting harmony in the section
- Ensuring that employees are familiar and comply with the policies and practices of the TTC with regard to rules, regulations and safe working practices
- Ensuring that subordinate staff are appropriately trained in all aspects of the work and in the operation of any new or modified equipment
- Participating in the on-going development of the Track Maintenance Training program
- Investigating various injuries, accidents, incidents or other problems which may arise, and initiating corrective action or making recommendations
- Ensuring that rules and regulations in the Union Agreement, Commission and departmental policies, and Government legislation (Human Rights, Labour Relations, Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.) are satisfied and applied fairly and consistently;
- Recommending the upgrading or progression of probationary employees and the regrading or dismissal of unsuitable employees
