Volunteer Board Member Position for Leadership Niagara

Leadership Niagara is a non-profit organization that began in 2007, created by local leaders in response to a distinct need to identify, nurture and grow future leaders within each sector of our community.

With over a decade of work, Leadership Niagara continues its dedication to inspiring community leadership through research based leadership programs.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Board is responsible for determining the mission, vision and values of the organization. Members of the Board shall:
1. Act in a position of trust for the community by setting policies that will guide and protect Leadership Niagara (LN) and its stakeholders;
2. Be responsible for the effective governance of the organization and provide support and guidance to the committees reporting to it;
3. Make decisions that are in the best interest of LN;
4. Speak with one voice publicly and support all organizational decisions;.

Specific tasks may include:

- Assessing and approval of the Strategic Plan, along with the specific objectives (needed to execute the Strategic Plan) as set forth by the LN management
- Monitoring the execution of Strategic Plan and objectives;
- Assessing and approval the scope of activities, programs, and services; set forth by LN management
- Approving program plans as set forth by the Program Advisory Committee (PAC) and LN management
- Provide governance with respect to guidance to LN and stakeholders/partner organizations;
- Approving organizational budgets;
- Human resource functions with respect to the Executive Director including but not limited to involvement in performance and compensation reviews;
- Assessing and approval of significant operational issues facing the organization as needs arise.

**REQUIREMENTS**:
REQUIREMENTS OF BOARD MEMBERSHIP INCLUDE:

- Demonstrate a strong commitment to LN's mission, values, and initiatives.
- Attend at least 60% of scheduled board meetings (approximately 2 hours bi-monthly) and avoid missing more than three consecutive meetings. Additionally, engage in committee work as required (approximately 10-15 hours per year).
- Dedicate time to board orientation and preparation for meetings, including thorough review of monthly board packages and prompt response to LN communications.
- Be open to participating in learning days, community projects, alumni engagement activities, and special events.
- Contribute to identifying potential individuals, organizations, businesses, and industries that could benefit from and support our programs.
- Maintain personal integrity and objectivity, disclose any ongoing conflicts of interest that may hinder fulfilling board responsibilities.
- Act as "Community Champions" for LN by engaging in conversations and/or presentations with community leaders and employers.

Membership on the Board shall consist of a 3 year term.
