Job Summary
The UBC Master in Physical Therapy (MPT) program is one of the leading Physical Therapy Programs in Canada. The program is fully-distributed and provides students the opportunity to study in state-of-art labs at sites in Vancouver, Prince George, Surrey and Victoria. The Classroom Coordinator
- MPT-Vancouver is responsible for the daily organization of teaching spaces for the MPT Program at the Vancouver site. This role is integral to the operations and goals of the Department in its provision of excellent client service and program delivery. This work will include set-up and take down of clinical lab sessions and procuring and maintaining equipment and supplies.
The Classroom Coordinator, MPT-Vancouver will also provide administrative and technical support to assist with the planning and delivery of the MPT Program. This work will include scheduling, room bookings, and supporting written and clinical exams. As well as supporting the MPT-Vancouver Site Manager and Site Leads on various projects and initiatives. The incumbent will also act as a liaison with Digital Solutions (MEDIT) to ensure audio-visual equipment that is maintained and functions correctly.
In providing classroom coordination and troubleshooting issues related to audio-visual and other equipment, the incumbent will be required to respond on short notice and resolve issues and complaints that arise in an efficient, calm, non-confrontational and tactful manner. To fulfil the operational requirements of this position, the incumbent will be required to start work at 7:30 am, and must be physically able to lift and move equipment such as therapy beds, clinical equipment, stacked chairs, etc. This role is required to be in-person on the UBC Point Grey Campus.
Organizational Status
The Department of Physical Therapy provides the only provincial program for the education of entry-to-practice physical therapists. Through rigorous scholarly activity, high standards of instruction and creative opportunities for learning, the Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) provides a strong foundation that supports the current and future practice of the profession. The Department is also a research-intensive unit with award winning faculty conducting state-of-the art healthcare research.
This position reports to the MPT-V Site Operations Manager. The position liaises with faculty, clinical faculty, external instructors, staff, students, the public, and vendors. The incumbent works closely with other university service units such Faculty of Medicine Digital Solutions (MedIT) as appropriate.
Work Performed
- Curriculum Spaces & Materials_:
- Acts as the central point of contact for course coordinators, and instructors regarding equipment, and other curriculum materials at the MPT-Vancouver site. Ensures requests meet established policies and procedures, suggests alternatives if required.
- Maintains an up-to-date list of on-site program equipment and equipment requirements for each course in the MPT Program.
- Identifies upcoming equipment needs and makes purchases within a defined budget. Tracks equipment spending and provides reporting to the MPT-Vancouver Site Manager.
- Creates and executes an equipment maintenance and calibration schedule. Ensures that spending is within a defined budget and accurate records of maintenance are maintained for accreditation reporting.
- Provides classroom coordination support to other departmental programs using MPT-Vancouver teaching spaces, as requested.
- Reports identified building deficiencies to the Site manager (teaching spaces) or to the Assistant to the Dept Head (common areas).
- Troubleshoots issues and provides instructor support during in-person class time, assisting faculty and instructors (some of whom are unfamiliar with UBC) in a prompt, helpful and courteous manner often on short-notice.
- Attends all MPT-Vancouver computer-based written exams to support faculty and resolve student issues during the exam including providing additional laptops, password/login issues, liaising with ExamSoft.
