Under the supervision of the IT Network Administrator, deploys and maintains City hardware, software, mobile devices, phone systems, wireless networks, and network components to ensure all City staff and Council Members have the necessary means and supports to successfully work within the City of St. Thomas’ Information Technology infrastructure, all while maintaining the security and integrity of the City’s network resources. Provides after-hours on call support, as needed, to ensure mínimal disruption to City Departments. Maintains the confidentiality of all matters coming to the incumbent’s knowledge through employment.

**MAJOR TASKS**:
1. Configures, installs, and maintains all computer hardware and software, including City servers and network devices.

2. Manages hardware and software inventories, acquiring quotes for purchase, as necessary.

3. Assists in maintaining hardware and software licencing agreements.

5. Responds to, in a timely manner, City User and Council Members’ support requests, using the Help Desk system, and ensures accurate records are maintained of the request, action taken and outcome.

6. Configures and maintains backup procedures, antivirus and endpoint protection, Microsoft 365 Security, disaster recovery procedures, and maintains the integrity and security of all City data that resides on premises, and in the cloud, where applicable.

8. Works with the IT Network Administrator, to assist with planning, testing, and implementing, solutions for various IT Projects, ensuring that high quality standards and levels of communication are maintained.

9. Performs installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of City Servers, LAN and WAN, connectivity, routers, firewalls, switches, and all network components.

10. Acts as a staff resource specialist in information technology matters and represents the IT Services Department on the Corporate IT Steering Committee.

11. Troubleshoots and corrects system inefficiencies by monitoring system logs and performing preventative maintenance.

12. Procures desktop hardware and software for Corporate users and departments, including the correct installation as per warranties, license agreements and the City’s Acceptable Use of Technology Policy.

14. Administers and maintains phone systems for all City departments and provides support to users.

15. Under the guidance of the IT Network Administrator, engages 3rd party vendors in the process of incident management, when deemed necessary.

16. Upon direction, creates and updates documentation to reflect new software/services, or changes to existing software/services, contributing to the growth and maintenance of the IT Knowledgebase (HelpDesk FAQ’s, User guides, Internal IT Documentation etc.).

17. Proactively seeks ways to improve the City’s IT experience through judicious and creative use of technology and presenting recommendations to the IT Network Administrator, for review and discussion.

18. This position must be compliant with all provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, related to “Duties of a Worker.”

19. All other duties assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
Graduation from a two year Community College program in computer sciences with a minimum of three (3) years in a computer maintenance/network administration environment or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. Preferred MCSA or MS Certified Professional designation or actively pursuing same. Must be capable of dealing with organizational staff with varying levels of technical systems knowledge.

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:
May be required to work outside and beyond the normal hours of work. Must possess a valid driver's licence for the Province of Ontario. The use of a privately owned vehicle is required.

**Remuneration Range**: $32.33 - $40.43 per hour working a 35 hour work week plus a comprehensive benefit package (CUPE Local 841).
