Founded in 2017, and the only service of its kind serving the area of South Simcoe, S.H.I.F.T stands for Support and Hope for Individuals and Families Today. S.H.I.F.T. provides lifesaving supports to youth, men, women, and families experiencing or at-risk of homelessness and/or food insecurity.
Our goal is to support individuals and families in “making a shift” in their circumstances by way of providing consistent trusting relationships, honest communication and promoting participant choice and empowerment. Our aim is to support participants in feeling that they belong to and are engaged in the community. We are committed to facilitating connection to further services, resources, and community.
S.H.I.F.T. offers safe, respectful, and welcoming overnight accommodations, meals and supports to those experiencing or at-risk of experiencing homelessness and/or food insecurity in South Simcoe.

**POSITION TITLE**:Program Coordinator
**DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM**:Daytime Drop-In and Emergency Overnight Shelter Programs.
**REPORTS TO**:Executive Director
**LOCATION**: Based out of 123 Victoria St. W., Alliston, Ontario (S.H.I.F.T. Headquarters)
**POSITION TYPE**:Full-time
**BACKGROUND**:S.H.I.F.T. (Support and Hope for Individuals and Families Today) provides safe, respectful, and welcoming overnight accommodation, meals and supports to those experiencing or at-risk of experiencing homelessness and/or food insecurity in South Simcoe. We are committed to facilitating connection to further services, resources, and community.
We believe that homelessness and/or food insecurity is a crisis that a person is experiencing; and that this experience does not define a person. Our goal is to provide services in which individuals experiencing poverty feel safe, supported, and welcome. Our focus is on offering safe and supportive access to services, while providing resources for community-building.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**: The Program Coordinator will play a vital role in overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the emergency overnight shelter and drop-in centre. Their mission will be to create a safe and welcoming environment for individuals experiencing homelessness, providing service users with essential resources, support, and care. Key responsibilities of the Program Coordinator include (but are not limited to):
- Program Management_
- Oversee daily operations of the emergency overnight shelter and drop-in centre.
- Coordinate and supervise staff and volunteers.
- Develop, implement, and coordinate program schedules and activities.
- Service User Support and Engagement_
- Establish a welcoming atmosphere for service users.
- Conduct intake and assessment processes to tailor services to individual needs.
- Provide formal and informal supervision to staff for effective case management.
- Crisis Intervention and Conflict Resolution_
- Handle crisis situations calmly and effectively.
- Mediate conflicts among service users using de-escalation techniques.
- Provide timely debriefing with trauma-informed and person-centered strategies.
- Community Outreach and Partnerships_
- Foster relationships with local organizations and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with external partners for specialized services and support.
- Program Evaluation and Reporting_
- Monitor and evaluate program outcomes regularly.
- Prepare and submit reports on program activities to management and funders.
- Maintain confidentiality of program and participant information.
- Staff Supervision and Evaluation_
- Complete staff hiring, onboarding, and scheduling.
- Conduct regular staff supervision sessions and evaluations.
- Facilitate staff training and development.
- Budget Management_
- Assist in developing and managing the program budget.
- Identify funding opportunities and assist in grant writing.
**WORKING CONDITIONS**:The Program Coordinator is expected to spend the equivalent of 40 hours per week performing the duties of the position. They will work predominantly Monday through Friday, however a flexible work scheduled can be negotiated. As a member of the leadership team, the Program Coordinator will provide on-call support on a rotating schedule (including weeknights and weekends). While working in homeless services is incredibly rewarding, it is an emotionally challenging work environment; the Program Coordinator is expected to practice and model appropriate and good self-care habits, for healthy work-life balance.
