BC Assessment is currently looking for a permanent People Programs Advisor to join our People team at our Victoria, BC - Uptown office. This critical role, provides advice and support to managers and supervisors on employee performance and attendance management; short and long-term disability; and return to work accommodations. This role works with the union on issues pertaining to duty to accommodate and health related absences.

Job Overview
This role requires a leader with deep understanding of HR practices, processes and tools related to employee and labour relations, as well as an understanding of the principles of the duty to accommodate and disability management. Someone with superb communication and collaboration skills; someone who can easily build and maintain strong working relationships with staff at all levels within the organization and work in tandem with both the employer and the Union. We need someone who can see the big picture, translate the technical to "lay person"; work collaboratively to influence behaviour with a constant view to the whole organization. Communication and strategic thinking skills are paramount. You also need to have solid skills, talent and the energy to make a positive impact within our team Someone who is solutions-oriented, organized and takes initiative... and enjoys using all of these skills.
Finally, you need to want to contribute - to our team, to the business and the communities that we support. This role matters and we are looking for someone who cares, and wants to be part of something awesome.
Key Accountabilities-
- Provides advice to managers in support of attendance/performance management issues, and obtains union agreement and document probationary extensions.- Assists in the investigation of potential disciplinary issues.- Provides advice to managers, employees and the union on the duty to accommodate.- Provides case management for short and long-term disability services, explains benefit provisions pertaining to sick leave and long-term disability, coordinates leaves and return to work plans, workplace accommodations, and processes documentation.- Reviews medical information supporting medically required leaves of absence and prepares letters to employees and medical practitioners for sick leave adjudication, return to work planning and workplace accommodations.- Contacts long-term disability providers on disability claims and return to work programs and monitors return to work progress.- Responsible for gathering and analyzing short and long-term leave statistics, recognizing trends and recommending supports and programs where necessary.- Coordinates the flow of program documentation with various service providers such as Pacific Blue Cross, BC Life, WorkSafe BC and medical practitioners.- Advises employ
