Research Assistant, Indigenous Knowledge Systems

Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.
**Position Overview**:
Research Assistant needed to assist in compiling and designing visually appealing content based on course materials and literature related to Indigenous knowledge systems.
**Duties**:
- Excellent independent research writing and content development skills including referencing styles.
- Assist in communication and coordination with potential contributors including Indigenous communities.
- Assist in developing sections of peer-reviewed publications based on primary and secondary research.
- Ability to compile and use literature on Indigenous food systems, Indigenous healing and planetary health including course materials, books, and internet.
- Design visually appealing content based on synthesis of course materials.
- Help in designing a course on Indigenous Innovation based on compiled literature on Indigenous food systems, Indigenous healing and planetary health peer-reviewed and grey materials, books, files, documentation
**Qualifications**:
- Senior undergraduate or first year graduate level students are preferred.
- Must have good knowledge, understanding and Interest in Indigenous knowledge systems, health and well-being, food systems, planetary health and sustainability topics either through courses, and research project involvement or community experience.
- Must have completed either IS-2401, IS-3201 or IS-2012 or IS-4026 OR similar course at University of Winnipeg/ Canadian Post secondary institution with at least B+ OR relevant experience in the topics of these courses.
- Good comprehension, research and analytical skills including researching and organizing research papers.
- Experience with conducting independent scholarly literature search, review and copy editing.
- Good knowledge of small office works, admin and familiarity with endnote or other library referencing system to prepare bibliography.
- Good interpersonal communication skills and familiarity with small office jobs.
- Excellent skills and experience in created visually appealing media on computer.
- Must be able to work independently and available for on-campus meetings.
**Condition(s) of Employment**:
- **Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.**
The period of work will be from **October 15, 2024 - March 28, 2025 **and the estimated total hours of work will be **0-200 hours**.
