- Voices for Change ACT Lead (Ambassador Constituent Team)

**WHY WE NEED YOU**
- The Canadian Cancer Society works with government to bring about healthy public policies that will help prevent cancer and improve the lives of people living with cancer and their caregivers. Everything we do is with the goal of preventing people from getting cancer, helping people with cancer to survive longer and improving their quality of life.
- We do this by:

- taking a stand on important cancer issues
- raising Canadians’ awareness and understanding about these issues
- influencing government to adopt policies that will help prevent cancer, improve outcomes and help people living with or affected by the disease
- We’re partnering with people across Canada in our efforts to make cancer care better. ACT Leads are important leadership volunteers that work alongside the CCS advocacy team. In this newly created role, ACT Leads are the volunteer advocacy representative in their electoral district and coordinate activities with elected officials at the federal, provincial and municipal level of governments. They work within the Advocacy Public Engagement team and across all of CCS advocacy to mobilize CCS advocacy priorities in their communities.

**WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING**
- Working alongside CCS advocates to build relationships with elected officials in your community
- Attend and present at meetings with elected official with CCS staff support
- Help build a municipal advocacy footprint by sending letters of introduction to municipally elected officials in your area, speaking on CCS advocacy issues at council meetings, writing letters etc.
- Add your personal cancer experience and/or experience living in your community to help drive CCS advocacy priorities
- Help CCS advocates organize issue-based campaigns, leveraging petitions, letters, and digital take-actions on CCS advocacy priorities in your community
- Help amplify issues faced by people impacted by cancer in your community
- Attend annual leadership summit and lobby day in Ottawa
- Help organize advocacy activations at CCS signature events in your community

- An individual with:

- Strong interest in health policy, government, and politics
- Commitment to helping to improve the lives of everyone impacted by cancer
- Strong political acuity and commitment to be non-partisan whenever representing CCS
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills

- Ongoing training opportunities to hone storytelling, presentation and legislative research skills
- Mentorship by other advocates, public relations and government relations professionals

**YOUR COMMITMENT**
- One-year term with opportunity for renewal; 1-2 hours per week on average with variability throughout the year
- Attend ACT Lead call bimonthly (every two months)
- Ability to travel within electoral district
- Travel to Ottawa once per year (reimbursed whenever possible) for summit and lobby day
- We welcome people of all backgrounds, abilities, and interests. Volunteers must be at least 19 years of age or older for this position due to the scope of the role and responsibilities.
