The **Department of Family Medicine** (DFM) has over 240 staff and 1,500 faculty distributed throughout 8 teaching sites and surrounding communities, teaching 200 residents and over 650 other health professional learners annually, and serving over 1,000,000 patients within southern/south Central Ontario. It is a recognized leader in family medicine teaching, research and practice nationally and internationally.

The Faculty has an enhanced focus and a commitment to Equity, Inclusion and Anti-oppression, by fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, cultural competency and safety, and professionalism, including accountability, integrity and respect for all faculty, staff and learners. The **Manager, EDI & Anti-Racism Initiatives** will act as the** Department of Family Medicine** 's central support unit for this portfolio.
This position will work closely with partners across the department, Faculty, University and affiliated hospitals including Indigenous Health, Continuing Professional Development, Human Resources and Faculty Relations, Education Services, departments/schools, regional and distributed campuses, the McMaster Equity & Inclusion Office, Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton to further Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism of the department & Faculty through strategies, initiatives, programs and activities that support the strategy.
**Job Summary**
Reporting jointly to the Executive Director of the Department of Family Medicine (DFM) and the Faculty of Health Sciences' (FHS) Manager of Equity Inclusion & Anti-Oppression Strategic Initiatives, the **Manager, EDI & Anti-Racism Initiatives** (“Manager”) is an integral member of the FHS EIO team and a core member of the Executive team of the Department of Family Medicine, in which this role is embedded with a mandate to lead EDI initiatives and work alongside colleagues in living out our commitment to truth and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.
The Manager is responsible for enabling the Department of Family Medicine (DFM) to build capacity for excellence in EDI/AR/AO policy and practice across the leadership team, and to cultivate a culture which opposes oppression and celebrates inclusion and belonging, within which all can thrive. In fulfilling this overarching mandate and in consultation with a range of colleagues within FHS, the Manager will create, lead and implement anti-racism and anti-oppression initiatives; enable inclusion of equity-seeking groups; promote psychological safety; and engage with McMaster’s Equity and Inclusion Office (EIO) and other partners to enhance efforts that promote equity, diversity and inclusion.
This position will serve as the main EDI/AR/AO consultant and advisor to the Executive team of the Department of Family Medicine (DFM) with whom partnered for related strategic and operational matters. The Manager will be called upon to lead the design, delivery and evaluation of programs and other initiatives aligned with the DFM commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion (EDI) and anti-racism undertaken in a manner that reflects the diverse experiences and interests of equity-deserving groups (EDGs) and acknowledges and honours Indigenous wisdom, self-determination, and ways of knowing.
Embedded within the DFM leadership team, the Manager will assume the roles of consultant, advocate, teacher, navigator, facilitator, project manager and collaborator, working closely in consultation with the department, FHS EIO, and University EIO colleagues to create and sustain a culture and experience of inclusive excellence. The Manager will be responsible for the supervision of administrative and/or research and student staff supporting the EDI initiatives and research projects within the DFM. They will be a member of the FHS EDI-IR Leads Group and FHS EDI-IR Committee as well as manage the DFM EDI supporting structures, engaging members across distributed sites, as well as facilitating synergies, sustainability and appropriate recognition for a dynamically evolving network of EDI-focused roles in different areas of the department, where relevant.
