We are currently seeking a Pension & Benefits Specialist for our Cambridge, ON location.

JOB PURPOSE

To administer, communicate and manage all employee benefits, pension plans, and group savings plans for all employee groups and retirees for all Canadian locations.

JOB STRUCTURE AND COMMUNICATIONS
- This position reports to the Director, Human Resources and currently has no internal direct reports; however, during times of heavy workload may oversee the work of an assistant.
- Works closely with other areas of Human Resources, Payroll and Finance & Accounting.
- Interacts with all employees and retirees at all Canadian BWXT locations.
- Interacts with employees at all levels within the organization including the executive level and corporate.
- Required to provide direction and feedback to outside service providers and consultants, including benefits, insurance plans and savings plan administrators, actuaries, outside legal, insurance company account executives, etc.
- This position is the key contact for all pension and benefits related issues and therefore requires a strong level of communication skills, multi-tasking, attention to detail, task prioritizing, strong interpersonal skills, and problem solving skills.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Oversight and administration of Group Insurance Plan
- Main Company contact for plan consultants and insurance companies. Responsible for providing direction to these outside resources and dealing with them directly when identifying and communicating gaps in their performance.
- Ensures ongoing communication and education to plan members in the form of group education sessions, one-on-one discussions, and the development of written materials to employees.
- Responsible for the maintenance and updating of plan information in SAP and other systems.
- Liaison with internal contacts such as IT, HRIS, payroll and Labour Relations to ensure smooth operation of the plan.
- Prepares monthly billings and payments to plan.
- Responds to employee/retiree inquiries by providing a high level of customer service.
- Assists employees with insurance company conflicts via interpretation of insurance contracts, collective agreements and best practices.
- Oversees the non-union salary continuous program, including return to work and accommodation issues.
- Ensures amendments for benefit plan changes are filed and that updates to systems are accurate and made in a timely manner.
- Reviews the insurance carriers interface twice per month to ensure integrity of member data.

Oversight and Administration of DB/DC Pension Plans and Group Savings Plans
- Resource to the BWXT Canada Pension Committee meetings. Attends meetings and provides advice on pension administration related matters.
- Ensures good plan governance by participating in audits, monitoring funding for outgoing CV transfers, works with outside Legal on plan text amendments/reinstatement, interacts with FSRA/OSFI and other plan regulators. Updates CAP guidelines. Keeps abreast of legislative changes impacting pension plans and other group savings programs and updates the pension committee of these changes as required.

Collective Bargaining
- Designs new plans, makes recommendations on plan design, language updates and oversees the implementation of new plans/plan updates for union and non-union staff.
- Preps information for collective bargaining such as recommending collective agreement language, provides benchmarking, and works closely with outside consultants on benefit and pension plan costings.
- Resource at the bargaining table and speaks to pension and benefit issues. Provides in-depth information to the union as required.

Special Projects
- Key HR team member during acquisitions. Reviews and analyzes documents, plan designs and makes recommendations to M&S leadership.
- Maintains the HR Portal.
- Oversees purchase of retiree gifts for Cambridge retirees.
