Position Status: FULL-TIME (37.5 HOURS PER WEEK)

Reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources & Corporate Services, the Human Resources Coordinator plays a pivotal role in developing and implementing human resources programs and procedures that optimize staffing and align workforce with strategic and operational goals of the Gwich’in Tribal Council (GTC) and its affiliates. Provides advice, guidance and information on matters pertaining to compensation and benefits, the GTC Human Resources Policy and Procedure Manual (the ‘Policy’), human resource planning, organizational development, recruitment and retention, employee relations, training, health and safety and performance management which is reflective of relevant laws, policies, practices, and standards.

**CORE RESPONSIBILITIES**

1. Policy Implementation - Provide strategic human resources (HR) planning to identify, develop, implement, document and maintain a full range of HR policies and procedures to ensure consistent and appropriate delivery of HR functions throughout the organization.

2. Employee Engagement - Support the orientation of new employees and provide interpretation as may be necessary on the Policy to staff including responding to staff inquiries and coordination of information and training sessions.

3. Recruitment - Provide advice and guidance in the areas of strategic business planning, succession, feasibility of HR approaches and employee management.

4. Monitoring and Evaluation - Review compensation and benefits, performance appraisals, compliance and update of HR policies and procedures on an annual basis.

5. Provision of Required Reporting - supports compilation of strategic plans and reports for the GTC and its group of companies with regards to HR initiatives.

Specifically, an ability to communicate HR policies and procedures in a straightforward manner and assist with the management, motivation, and development of staff.

C. Organization - strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all HR matters and documentation.

D. Confidentiality - maintenance of confidentiality and handling of sensitive information related to personnel.

E. Logistics - ability to work in a cross-cultural environment and work flexible hours

**QUALIFICATIONS**

***The qualifications required for this position include:

- Completion of a bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field;
- Over (3) years’ experience as a human resources generalist or related field;
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision;
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license; and,
- Strong customer service orientation.

The qualifications desired for this position also include:

- Knowledge of the overall mandate, goals, and objectives of the GTC and the political and social environment in which its programs and services are offered;
- Understanding and working knowledge of the _Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement_;
- Fluency in the Gwich’in language; and,
- Experience in in the public or Indigenous sectors, ideally in a cross-cultural setting.
