Job Summary
Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the incumbent will perform a wide array of duties in support of research projects affiliated with the Arrhythmia Research Centre. The incumbent will primarily work in the clinical arrhythmia research unit (CARU), and will participate in the coordination of any clinical research trial or studies being performed by the Heart Rhythm Service (HRS) Principal Investigator(s) (PIs), which will include initiating participant screening, recruitment and enrolment, tracking participants, assisting in scheduling of participants, notifications, participant randomization, data entry, maintenance of records in a confidential manner. The incumbent will also be required to support the Cardiac Arrhythmia Signal Analysis Lab (CASA) which may include, but are not limited to, completing literature reviews, assisting with research ethics board submissions and data collection, and carrying-out basic administrative functions. The incumbent will write reports, assist in manuscript and grant preparations under the supervision of Dr Redfearn and CASA senior staff.
**Job Description**:
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Participant in enrolment of screening heart rhythm service (HRS) patients. When requirements are met consent is obtained from participant. Coordination of all services required in the implementation of the study protocols, education & collaboration with hospital/clinic staff to ensure protocol followed, and handling / shipment of participant samples (body fluids) may be involved.
- Scheduling integration of research and clinical activities.
- Assist with covering & attending all CARU participant initial & follow up visits as needed (eg coverage for CARU staff vacation, and absences).
- Assist in the coordination & supervision of work study students (tracking hours worked, compensation, associated paperwork) who report directly to the PI.
- Conduct literature reviews using electronic library databases (pubmed, web of science). This will involve looking up references and books, and summarizing articles.
- Assist in the generation of various documents, reports, presentations, grants and provide input where appropriate. Participate and act as resource person in the production of more complex publications.
- Assist in data collection functions (mail outs, interviews, focus groups).
- Utilize and refine computer databases (Excel, MS ACCESS). Perform basic data processing, including data entry and statistical output (JMP, SPSS, REDcap).
- Post research findings on the websites and make other website updates as required.
- Perform basic administrative services, such as scheduling, making appointments, word processing, faxing, copying, and filing. Prepare or, if routine, initiate correspondence, notes and memos. Write reports under the supervision of investigators.
- Assisting CARU manager, HRS PIs, and CASA manager as needed.
- Undertake other activities as delegated in support of the Arrhythmia Research Unit specifically CARU.
**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Two year post-secondary program in a relevant field. A Bachelor of Science degree considered an asset.
- Good Clinical Practice Research certificate considered an asset.
- Knowledge of statistical programming considered an asset.
- Knowledge of cardiology (preferred but not essential).
- Knowledge and experience with Queen’s Research Ethics Boards considered an asset.
- Knowledge and experience using TRAQ Researcher Portal (preferred but not essential).
- Experience working in a research environment is highly desirable.
- Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
