The Branch business model is based on the Departmental principle of "development" and "delivery" - IPD supports development through planning/design, outreach and project setup functions.

Working within an integrated business model and reporting to the Engineering Program Manager (Roadway Assessment & Prioritization), the Roadway Assessment Technician will undertake condition assessments of roadway assets, operate specialized roadway assessment equipment (including processing and analyzing collected data), oversee a team of seasonal field staff, and support prioritization of rehabilitation/renewal activities associated with city-owned transportation infrastructure (i.e. roadways and traffic control/street lights).

- Plan and execute the collection of condition data for roadway assets using ARAN van equipped with assessment hardware/software, Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) and Dynaflect equipment for structural testing of roadway pavements, and hand-held mobile data capture equipment with GIS apps for visual condition assessment of pavements, curbs, and sidewalks
- Utilize GIS/ETL tools and Google Workspace/MS Office for post-processing, analysis, and reporting of collected data from ARAN van, FWD & Dynaflect, and hand-held mobile equipment into condition ratings
- Provide guidance, direction and training to seasonal field staff that perform field assessment and post-processing
- Execute seasonal/daily calibration procedures for structural testing equipment and ARAN van assessment sensors/hardware/software
- Conduct timely QA/QC checks on seasonal field staff to ensure adherence to asset assessment protocols, taking corrective actions when necessary
- Utilize GIS knowledge to perform QA/QC checks and validate data integrity
- Perform transfer procedures into asset management software and conduct quality checks within the software
- Assist in the updating of pavement/asset management systems, including traffic data, renewal work activity history, and other pavement asset attributes (geometric, jurisdictional, etc.) within GIS and/or asset/pavement management software
- Assist in prioritization of roadway renewal projects, including use of asset/pavement management software
- Administer preventative maintenance for structural testing equipment and ARAN Van
- Handle repairs for structural testing equipment, ARAN van assessment sensors/hardware/software, and hand-held mobile data capture equipment, including troubleshooting with equipment vendors and City IT
- Other related duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Two year Civil Engineering Technology Diploma, or equivalent
- CET certification through ASET, or eligible for certification
- GIS training or experience (ESRI ArcGIS Pro, Online ArcGIS, or Geomedia)
- Minimum two years proven experience in field assessment of roadway assets
- Sound knowledge of technical principles and practices related to roadway condition assessment techniques and QA/QC processes/procedures, and asset management
- Competent operational knowledge of both manual and automated condition assessment equipment for roadway assets
- Proficiency in GIS, with expertise in Esri ArcGIS and/or Hexagon GeoMedia
- Self-motivated with analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as effective communication/presentation skills (both verbal and written)
- Proven ability to interpret technical information and demonstrate strong report-writing skills
- Ability to handle interactions with the public, vendors/suppliers and consultants
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license or operator's licensing equivalent. Applicant may be required to obtain business use auto insurance
- Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
