**JOB SUMMARY**:
Public Outreach & Communications provides strategic communications and outreach support to the Public Works & Environmental Services department through a centralized unit that consolidates and streamlines the delivery of specialized communications, outreach and education programs, initiatives, activities and services, and provides support for activities in the public realm.

You provide assistance in the development and implementation of PWES departmental public outreach and education activities and events, program promotion and communications, research and project coordination.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:
Post-secondary Student - completion of first year college or university in Environmental Studies/Science, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations

Minimum of 8 months but less than 1 year of related experience is required, including public speaking, customer service, event planning

Experience in environment-related areas including drinking water/wastewater, source water protection, solid waste or recycling programs, forestry and parks sustainment, and road safety, is an asset.

**CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES**:

Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated

**KNOWLEDGE**:

- Project management principles and practices;
- Data gathering and analysis techniques; and
- Business/report writing. Requires work boots.

**COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:

- Computer skills - advanced level;
- Interpersonal skills - specifically in group settings involving the general public;
- Written and verbal communications skills; and
- Presentation skills
- Works well independently or as part of a team;
- Communicates effectively with colleagues, general public, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders;
- Proven ability to manage and meet deadlines. Ability to lift heavy objects.
- Likes to work outdoors.
