**Job Summary**:
Reporting to the Supervisor of Technical & Design Services and working under the direction of a Survey Crew Chief, the incumbent will work in a crew of two or three. This position conducts survey measurements, calculations, data compilations, and establishes field reference points to assist Project Managers, consultants and contractors in the design and construction of Regional infrastructure projects.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Collaborates with the Crew Chief to coordinate project activities.
- Responsible in the collection of instrument data for municipal infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency in the operation and adjustment of highly specialized survey equipment including total station, digital level, conventional levels and GPS equipment.
- Gather and verify the accuracy of survey data and reports, including measurements, calculations, coding/annotations and documentation.
- Provide technical expertise on survey instrumentation, software, documentation, and safety procedures.
- Determining methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.
- Calculating heights, depths, relative positions and other characteristics of terrain and built features.

**Additional Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Computing geodetic measurements and interpreting survey data in order to determine positions, shapes and elevations of geomorphic and topographic features.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of construction drawings and technical specifications.
- Awareness of Health and Safety and OTM Book 7 policies, procedures and regulations.
- Ensuring that the public and all those impacted by survey activity are dealt with in a courteous and professional manner.

**Skills & Qualifications**:
**Essential**
- Diploma in Civil Engineering, Survey or Construction Technology.
- 2 years of direct survey experience.
- Certified or eligible for certification through the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technologists and Technicians (OACETT).
- Knowledge in survey theory, practice and skilled in the use of survey equipment. Exceptional customer service, interpersonal skills, attention to detail and the ability to work in a team.

**Preferred**
- Working knowledge of Carlson 2022 software.
- Prior municipal experience in survey, design or construction.

**Working/ Employment Conditions**:
**Working Conditions**
- The incumbent will be required to safely work in live traffic, on active construction sites, at rail crossings and at Regional plants. Additional hazards may include working in various environmental conditions such as sun, heat, cold and noise.
- Must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including walking long distances, carrying equipment, moving maintenance manhole covers up to 100lbs, exposing features, clearing vegetation, pounding stakes and navigating varying terrain.
- Flexibility in working hours may be required. Occasional overtime may be required in evenings or on weekends.

**Employment Conditions**
- A valid G driver's license.
- The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle. A copy of their driver’s license and a driver’s abstract will be required no later than their first day of employment. Additionally, the incumbent may be required to use their own transportation.
