Job Overview

The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in fulfilling the equipment and supply requirements for the endoscopy and operating room environments. Responsibilities include assisting operating room nurses with patient positioning and transport, ensuring the immediate cleaning of endoscopes post-procedure, and maintaining cleanliness in the endoscopy suite and operating rooms between cases. The technician will also prepare endoscopes for subsequent procedures, adhering to the standards established by recognized organizations such as the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), the Provincial Infections Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC), the Central Service Association of Ontario (CSAO), and Health Canada.

In addition, the role encompasses managing the case cart and picking system, which includes both Just-In-Time (JIT) and non-JIT supplies and instruments. The technician will assist with the reprocessing needs of the department as required. Effective communication within the Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) team is essential to ensure all reprocessing tasks are completed efficiently and on time.

Required Qualifications

  • Certification from a recognized Medical Device Reprocessing Course is mandatory; a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on apprenticeship hours is required; OR
  • A suitable combination of education and experience will be considered; MDRAO (CSAO) or CSA Certification with at least one year of relevant experience in Medical Device Reprocessing.
  • Prior experience in Medical Reprocessing, Sterilization, and Reprocessing is essential.
  • Completion of an Operating Room Technician course and previous experience in an operating room setting is required.
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills are advantageous.
  • A solid understanding of teamwork dynamics within the operating room is important.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to work with both delicate and heavy equipment is required.
  • Capability to meet the physical demands of the role.
  • A satisfactory employment and attendance record is required.
  • Must be able to work independently when necessary.

Additional Information

Work Schedule: Shifts are scheduled from Monday to Sunday, primarily during the day with occasional evening shifts, subject to operational requirements.

Compensation: Competitive hourly wage.
