Position Summary:
Reporting to the Dean and as a member of the Faculty senior administrative team, the incumbent oversees the five administrative units: Financial Services, Business Systems, Academic Affairs, Infrastructure, and Human Resources. Working closely with Faculty leadership, the employee establishes and implements the Faculty’s short and long term financial goals, objectives, and operating processes, and finds funding solutions to meet the short, mid and long term goals and priorities of the Faculty. The Director of Administration also contributes to the Faculty’s strategic vision and planning process.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Responsible for the development and implementation of key strategic initiatives as it relates to fulfilling the mission of the Faculty.
- Review and evaluate the strategic viability and cost effectiveness of new academic business opportunities and initiatives, taking into account all diverse aspects of academic programs.
- Review the business plans for new programs, revenue-generating activities, and partnerships.
- Provide leadership and strategic advice in the execution and delivery of these undertakings.
- As a member of the senior administration in the Faculty, participate in strategic planning endeavors and ensure that they are aligned with the overall goals of the Faculty.
- Provide direction and professional guidance and advice to the Faculty in the development of Faculty policies and procedures.
- Communicate and explain the strategic plans to all staff.
- Ensure responsible and efficient stewardship of Faculty funds while respecting McGill’s financial guidelines, policies and timelines, and in cooperation with appropriate central offices.
- Undertake the analyses of the impact of potential programs, enrollment mix, tuition changes, research processes.
- Review and evaluate proposed new initiatives; quantify and forecast revenues and costs; rationalize reallocation of resources; report on Faculty planning and forecasting needs.
- Implement management controls and reporting procedures to ensure that the relevant stakeholders are up-to-date on compliance requirements.
- Work closely with Faculty’s key academic and operations stakeholders to ensure global understanding of financial and resource needs and status.
- Set long-term goals and objectivies, outlining overall strategies to achieve the goals to ensure that all employees actively support the vision and direction of the Faculty.
- Directly supervise the Faculty's central administrative and support teams (Financial Services, Business Systems, Academic Affairs, Infrastructure, and Human Resources) - a diverse team of staff members.
- Responsible for creating the culture necessary for the Faculty to accomplish its strategic objectives.
- Exemplify leadership characteristics and means, i.e. have a vision, strategize, empower others, strive to make change and focus on people and results.
- Participate in the establishment of the administrative organizational plan for the Faculty.
- Oversee and assess the progress of major projects at key intervals.
- Oversee the management, coordination, preparation and analysis of fiscal reporting including financial statements and reports to satisfy University and Faculty requirements. Integrate the financial processes with the strategic planning process.
- Represent the Faculty on University committees and participate in working groups that address University priorities and issues; participate in Faculty internal committees.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Strong leadership skills to bring together diverse stakeholders, leveraging individual strengths and overcoming differing points of view. Self-motivated with well-developed organizational skills and ability to effectively prioritize a wide range of responsibilities. Experience in supervising staff, especially mid-level managers, in a hybrid work environment. Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism in working with a team of people to achieve specific outcomes. Must be results-driven and a self-starter with a proven ability to liaise and communicate with a wide variety of clients. Ability to analyze complex issues and problem-solve using tools like Tableau and PowerBI. Highly organized and proven ability to delegate appropriately. Proven ability to manage multiple projects with specific deadlines. Highly adept at using collaboration and sharing tools such as Microsoft Teams, Sharepoint, etc. Excellent writer and presenter with ability to prepare reports and presentations targeted to multiple audiences. High degree of fluency in both written and spoken English and French. Experience in a university/non-profit environment an asset, with an emphasis on resource management.
