Since the early 2000’s, the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR) has experienced a longer ice-free season, immerging tourism, and an increase in shipping, research opportunities, and recreational traffic. There has also been a growing interest in resource extraction. The changing seascape has resulted in changing local marine priorities which need to be identified and adapted to.

The Marine Program Coordinator shall plan and facilitate the Inuvialuit Regional Corporations marine initiatives while remaining well versed in the changing marine seascape, opportunities, and priorities - local and regional. The Marine Program Coordinator shall work to strengthen relationships and understandings with ISR community members, Elders, youth, organizations, and beneficiaries by acting as a liaison to hear and respond to community marine priorities. Specific areas of focus could include marine safety, infrastructure, baseline monitoring, natural resource management, marine planning and Inuvialuit Knowledge (TK) studies. They will support programming related to the marine environment, and working with communities, researchers, and other experts to develop solutions to minimize gaps in knowledge related to the Beaufort Sea.

The Marine Program Coordinator will also be aware of emerging marine science initiatives and support programming and marine research priorities. They are responsible for evaluating gaps in existing marine research programming, monitoring, and datasets to improve overall wellbeing of Inuvialuit and to strengthen marine knowledge to be better prepared for future resource management research initiatives.

The Inuvialuit Regional Corporation’s Marine Program Coordinator will be situated within the Innovation, Science and Climate Change Division and work closely with local communities, the Inuvialuit Corporate Group to ensure a coordinated approach to marine matters in the ISR.

**CORE DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**
- Support work related to marine planning, fisheries management, natural resource management, and other areas, as applicable
- Communicate ongoing work with community members and other key partners and collaborators, including the federal and territorial governments.
- Conduct and/or coordinate Inuvialuit Knowledge studies focused on the Beaufort Sea
- Support the development of community driven marine focused proposals.
- Establish an ISR marine monitoring program
- Support implementation of various marine related policies
- Liaise with Community Corporations, FJMC, Elders, youth, other Inuvialuit Knowledge holders, and community members to engage on matters related to marine environment
- Assist in identification and development of regional marine research priorities for Inuvialuit

**ADDITIONAL DUTIES & JOB FUNCTIONS**
- Coordinate public and information opportunities (social media, newsletter) regarding marine matters and environmental protection programs.
- Track project budgets to ensure resources and funds are used effectively.
- Program management and results reporting.
- Support local and regional marine related initiatives (i.e. MAIS).
- Represent Inuvialuit on marine issues (as requested)

**EDUCATION**
- College diploma in a related field and a minimum of 5 years related work experience
- A Master’s degree in physical, social or environmental sciences or related fields is preferred

**EXPERIENCE**
- Experience facilitating community engagement and training sessions on complex issues and developing long and short-term plans and community programs.
- Experience working with indigenous communities and organizations.
- Experience in developing community projects with the ability to create both long and short-term plans based on community input.
- Familiarity with marine activities in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region.
- Familiarity with the role the ocean and waterways play in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region.
- Inputting information into Microsoft Word and Excel and conducting basic analysis.
- Experience leading or participating in Inuvialuit Knowledge sharing activities.

**SKILLS & ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS**
- Knowledge of the Inuvialuit Settlement Region, the Inuvialuit Final Agreement (IFA), and the cooperative management structures established pursuant to the IFA.
- Competency in Microsoft (Excel, Word, Project) and GIS
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a variety of organizations, other staff, and client groups
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written, with diverse audiences
- Ability to plan, schedule, supervise, conduct, evaluate, and report on projects and programs
- Tact, Judgement, cultural sensitivity, and behavioural flexibility are required attributes
- Willingness to travel within and outside the Inuvialuit Settlement Region
- Strong willingness to learn about marine programs and related systems
- Self-reliant
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
