The Economics and Fiscal Policy Division plays an integral role in the development of Alberta’s fiscal strategy. This position is in Alberta Office of Statistics and Information branch, within the Economics and Fiscal Policy Division. The team is responsible for monitoring economic developments, preparing the official government statistics, economic forecast, and analyzing issues influencing Alberta’s economy.

**Organizational Context**:
The Alberta Office of Statistics and Information (OSI) is a branch within the Economic and Fiscal Policy division in Treasury Board and Finance. The OSI is Alberta's statistical agency and the Statistical Focal Point for Statistics Canada.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Are you an economic statistician with a deep understanding of Alberta's economic landscape, industry linkages, and global positioning? We're seeking an Economic Statistics Manager who can provide expert knowledge in complex modeling techniques and the design, development, and enhancement of economic performance metrics. This role will require technical expertise to identify the most suitable analytical techniques for assigned tasks and develop new models when needed. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must to effectively provide advice and technical knowledge to non-technical clients. The major responsibilities for the Economic Statistics Manager role include:
1. Leadership & Development of OSI Network: Leading and establishing expertise on cross-ministry initiatives, interactions with Statistics Canada, and other provinces for analytical best practices and modeling techniques for economic datasets.

2. Coaching & Development Staff: Supervising and mentoring junior economic staff, supporting their development and training, providing feedback, and resourcing necessary software, hardware, and data management tools.

3. Research & Analysis: Initiating and planning the development and publication of foundational economic indicators and modeling to ensure robust information supports for financial forecasts and budgeting purposes.

4. Modernize & Enhance: Providing innovative statistical modeling solutions and methodologies to ensure reliable and accurate assessment and reporting on Alberta's economy.

5. Innovation: Identifying and evaluating strategic initiatives focused on economic and financial trends and issues to enhance ministry business plans and government's economic forecasts.

**Qualifications**:
University graduation in economics, statistics, or a similar field of study with 4 years experience and proficiency in using and developing economic models and creating statistical, financial and economic related. Masters degree preferred.

Knowledge and/or experience in the following is strongly preferred:

- Knowledge of Provincial Economic Account is asset.
- A working knowledge of the Alberta economy, industries, and the needs Alberta businesses.
- Familiarity with the Government of Alberta, Ministry Business Plan and OSI Act.
- Demonstrated experience in management and leadership in program delivery, strategic planning, human resource development and client service.
- Experience working with other governments, especially Statistics Canada. Strong communication, leadership, team building and problem-solving skills are essential.Refer to:

This is a permanent, full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Currently, the Government of Alberta offers a hybrid work schedule that employees can choose to work from home for two days per week. Employees working from home must be working from an Alberta location. This position will be located in the Queen Elizabeth II (formerly Federal Building) in Edmonton.
