Our training programs have built capacity in diverse areas including entrepreneurship, insurance, information and computer technology, construction, French language acquisition, hospitality, supply chain management, and more. We have delivered unique training programs for a variety of organizations, Indigenous Communities and on behalf of the Ministry of Labour & Immigration and Ministry of Community & Social Services and Employment and Social Development Canada.

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

Economic Skills
- Dataset management pertaining to economic data (GDP series, labour market data, High Frequency Indicators, etc.)
- Developing regional and provincial macroeconomic forecasts using national accounts data and other sources (Canadian System of Macroeconomic Accounts) and their importance to informing policy decisions.
- Building out Ballad's suite of economic models, including bridge models and other statistical tools for analyzing localized economic developments.

Research skills
- Completing research and synthesizing data from both primary and secondary sources.
- Building surveys, interview formats, and other data collection tools.
- Data collection, including through visiting communities and conducting interviews with project stakeholders, including but not limited to business owners, community leaders, and Indigenous rights holders.

Communication skills
- Presenting research results in reports, tables, and charts.
- Engaging with clients through presentations and the delivery of written reports.
- Advising businesses, governments, and individuals on solutions to economic problems.
- Writing economic analysis for Ballad's website.

Indigenous culture
- Gaining exposure to the economic challenges of Indigenous communities and approaches to overcoming those challenges.
- Expanding and deepening connections to Indigenous community leaders through client interactions.

Project Planning and Delivery

Experience
- Essential:_
- A post-secondary degree in economics.
- Strong understanding of data analysis tools (MS Excel, SPSS, R, or similar), techniques (qualitative, quantitative, coding, cross-tabbing), and visualization (Tableau or similar).
- Strong writing skills acquired through academic and/or professional experience.
- Experience working with online survey or engagement platforms such as Survey Monkey.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends and/or evenings and willingness to travel to rural and remote communities.
- Demonstrated understanding of consulting practice with the ability to deliver high-quality work on time and within budget.
- Assets:_
- Educated to master's level.
- Experience in a research-related role.
- Understanding of Indigenous Peoples, protocols, and history or willingness to pursue cultural awareness education to that end.
- Comfortable working with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, and/or similar.
- Valid driver's license.
