**Location**

The Pay and Benefits Reconciliation Specialist reports directly to the Manager, Payroll Services and supports the semi-monthly, monthly and fiscal year reconciliation, remittance and reporting of payroll and benefit payments. This position is accountable for the integrity and compliance of payroll and benefits accounting. The Pay and Benefits Reconciliation Specialist is responsible for the verification, reconciliation, balancing and preparation of remittances for statutory deductions, general deductions, pensions and benefits to Canada Revenue Agency, benefit carriers, agencies or others as required. The incumbent ensures that deductions and payments collected are appropriate, accurate and that 3rd party remittances are completed as scheduled.

**Duties**
- Responsible for the maintenance and in-depth financial analysis, reconciliation and reporting for all institutional and benefit and payroll liability accounts
- Reconcile premiums deducted each pay period and remit to the benefits carrier and/or appropriate agency
- Identify and investigate problems or discrepancies between employee deductions and carrier accounts to determine source of error and develops appropriate remedy
- Prepare and submit for processing authorized remittance payments, special payment request, general ledger journals, and EFT (electronic fund transfers
- Generate/manage reporting and transactional processing through Peoplesoft financials
- Remittance of CPP, EI and tax; transact the subsequent ledger journal entry and perform reconciliation
- Ensures all WCB rebates/payments are processed for all applicable provinces
- Prepares annual reporting reconciliation for both pension plans - PSPP and UAPP
- Internal audit
- provides information on source deductions on an annual basis. This includes all CRA accounts (income tax, Canada Pension Plan, Employment Insurance, Association dues, WCB fees, UAPP/PSPP Pension contributions, United Way). External Audits - provides information on source deductions, pension remittances, association dues, University financial statements and payroll journals on an annual basis
- Responsible for providing information and support for all audit practices as they relate to the institutional payroll and benefits accounts
- Complete preparations for annual tax slip (T4, T4A, T4ANR) production by reviewing year end personal data edits, tax table definitions and earning/deduction code setups and cleaning employee data issues
- Submit requests for Shared Services Finance to create journal vouchers, invoices and payment requests for 3rd party billing, off
- cycle charges, benefit carriers, union time-off, internal billings or other transfers as necessary
- Prepare garnishment records and payments
- Ensures all Payroll journals are posted correctly and balance to PeopleSoft payroll
