**SUMMARY**
The Energy Specialist is responsible for strategic development and assistance with energy projects.
Within the current setting of heightened environmental awareness, this position will be a key driver in day-to-day performance reporting and the continued development of the Energy Program. Reports to the regional Energy Manager.
**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
Development and Execution of Energy Saving Projects:
- Liaise with energy analysts as required to obtain and review relevant building energy data.
- Identify buildings best suited for energy retrofit projects.
- Identify opportunities for specific energy saving measures in buildings.
- Assist with energy audit, re-commissioning and Carbon Neutral scopes of work.
- Complete ASHRAE Level 1 Energy Audits
- In conjunction with Project Delivery Services (PDS), direct consultants throughout the development of audits, the re-commissioning process and the development of Carbon Neutral studies.
- Recommend energy retrofit projects based on the results of the audits, re-commissioning process and Carbon Neutral studies.
- In conjunction with PDS, direct the consultant and contractor throughout the feasibility study, design development, tendering, construction and commissioning phases of energy projects.
- Support the project management team in the delivery of other projects that have an impact on energy consumption.
- Communication and engagement.
- Understanding and knowledge of building automation control systems. Work with the Operations Team to improve building energy efficiency using these systems.
Design and Produce Sustainability Metrics
- Assist Energy Manager with Interpreting and translating the implications of global GHG standards and targets into strategic information processes and actionable facility management metrics.
- Assist in the design and development of technical requirements for GHG reporting and analysis.
Support Energy Reporting:
- Support resources and schedule the delivery of internal and external energy reports;
- Support the Client Facing Teams with their energy reporting needs.
- Diagnose energy consumption and cost variances in support of the contract accounting teams.
- Provide evaluation of in-house payment reporting and analytics in efforts to improve processes.
- Work with the Energy Analyst reporting to Operations and identify any anomalies.
Knowledge & Skills
- Community college diploma or university degree in engineering or energy and building system technology.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience managing energy and/or delivering energy retrofit projects in commercial buildings.
- Knowledge of units of energy/utility measurement and conversions.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with project managers, property managers, building technicians, consultants and contractors.
- Familiar with building controls systems and/or writing HVAC sequences of operations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding of ISO9001 and ISO140001 Standards
- Project management experience is considered an asset.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
Certified Energy Manager from Association of Energy Engineers, considered an asset.
