**Description**

This position reports to the POET Program manager and will receive direction from the POET Program Lead Investigators and Research Associate(s) of the project(s) to which they are assigned. The Clinical Data Capture Specialist will support the Precision Oncology & Experimental Therapeutics (POET) program.

The primary purpose of this position is to populate the POET Program database with accurate information from mainly prostate, bladder and breast cancer patient charts and perform quality assurance measures on datasets. Other tasks include contributing to data reports and mentoring students.

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
A clinical data capture specialist's services must meet the continuously changing needs of the department and the University, and they are responsible to maintain established programs and procedures.
- Reviews patient medical records and charts to abstract data for research
- Enters data into databases in a highly accurate manner
- Maintain optimal data recording practices and confidentiality
- Collect and maintain data logs
- Perform regular quality control checks on data entries
- Contribute to protocol development by bringing forth feasible ideas for patient recruitment, study design and methodology and patient retention in studies
- Make recommendations to policy or procedural changes as needed
- Maintain established programs and procedures
- Recruit and explain research to study participants as necessary
- Advise on the development informed consent forms, source documents worksheets and case report forms
- Administrative duties including organization and filing of confidential study records

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- Minimum three years of experience working in a clinical setting and/or working with medical information, with demonstrated knowledge of clinical oncology data collection
- Completion of post-secondary education in a health, science, or related discipline
- A Master's degree, clinical trials background, or medical training would be an asset
- Experience with chart reviews and data input in oncology is essential
- Understanding of the clinical aspects of cancer and familiarity with basic science research would be an asset
- A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of research methodology and administrative processes, including research ethics, grant and manuscript writing is an asset
- Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, time management and organizational skills and attention to detail
- Fluency in English; exceptional written and verbal communication
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
