**Job Description**:

The Utilization and Resource Coordinator is responsible for ensuring efficient and effective waste and linen management practices, across multiple Island Health locations. The Coordinator implements projects and programs that target cost drivers of waste management and linen usage, in alignment with other environmental strategies of Island Health. The Coordinator will work with various internal and external stakeholders to assess current practices, identify opportunities for change, design and implement improvements, monitor and report on short and long term waste reduction results and linen utilization targets. The Coordinator will also provide support in the capital submission cycle and the equipment preventative maintenance program for the department.

The Coordinator plays a key role in developing measurement processes and tools to optimize the benefits of waste/linen management initiatives and is a major contributor for Island Health to the provincial government's carbon reduction efforts. The Coordinator identifies and delivers future waste stream reduction projects and the expansion of recycling opportunities that are aligned with the strategies of Island Health. The Coordinator optimizes the use and distribution of linen throughout each hospital and focuses on reducing the overuse and misuse of linen in support ofr environmental, financial, and procedural improvements.

The Coordinator employs project and program management principles and practices in the planning, design and execution of initiatives within Island Health, and provides change management leadership in working with all Island Health stakeholders.

Key contacts and stakeholders include Housekeeping Teams, Management Teams, Sustainability Teams, Clinical staff, Site Champions and other Island Health Staff, as well as waste stream vendor representatives, government and related agencies, such as other health authorities.

The ability to travel frequently is a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Island Health Authority in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree or other related area or equivalent experience in environmental sustainability or hospital laundry and five (5) years' recent in a healthcare environment.. Experience working within a health care services setting is of benefit.

A valid BC driver's license is required.

**Skills And Abilities**:

- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate well one-on-one and in group settings.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to anticipate future issues and proactively respond with options/solutions.
- Working knowledge of performance management, quality management and continuous improvement concepts, initiatives and programs.
- Knowledge and understanding multiple employer services models and management.
- Proven knowledge of project management (introductory courses and/or direct work experience).
- Ability to build, nurture and maintain effective collaborative partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve goals and objectives.
- Ability to adapt readily to rapid and changing environment and respond with initiative.
- A fundamental understanding of the benefits and challenges of health care, health services delivery and operations.
- Strong skills with related software products such as Word, Excel, Project, Visio, and database programs.
