The Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA) is seeking an Investigator to join our dynamic team. On behalf of the Registrar, you will investigate the conduct of licensees and unlicensed persons into possible breaches of the _Real Estate Act_ by objectively gathering all relevant facts and safeguarding evidence.

**Role & responsibilities**
- **investigate**: the initial evaluation of complaints and subsequent investigations into potential breaches of the legislation
- **assess**: evaluate the conduct of licensees and unlicensed persons arising from a complaint or information based on the facts and circumstances at the time in question
- **recommend**: upon completion of the investigation, recommend an outcome and document information to support decisions
- **demonstrate**: use proven analytical and problem-solving skills and use logical decision-making
- **trust**: proven ability to build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
- **collaborate**: work with team members to ensure the investigative and resolution process complies with the _Real Estate Act_
- **report**: prepare complete and objective investigation reports for the Registrar and analysis reports for Legal Counsel
- **communicate**: explain complex legal concepts to individuals
- **participate**: attend hearings and prosecutions as a witness to provide evidence

**Skills & qualifications**
- minimum of post-secondary diploma, certificate, or equivalent from an accredited university or college
- minimum of 2-3 years of investigation experience or equivalent
- an investigation designation such as National Certified Investigator & Inspector Training - Basic and Specialized (NCIT), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Certified Financial Crimes Investigator (CFCI) is preferred
- a certificate in Tribunal Administrative Justice from the Foundation of Administrative Justice is preferred
- familiarity with the industry sectors RECA regulates is an asset
- strong written and verbal skills including experience with report writing
- interviewing experience and techniques with the ability to deal with, and persuade, difficult persons
- strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
- computer literacy including proficiency in Office 365
- can work under pressure in a changing and fast-paced environment
- investigation experience within a regulatory environment is an asset
- a valid driver’s license for occasional travel
