**Manager, Finance & Administration**:
**Primary Purpose**:The Manager, Finance & Administration manages the WCVM financial services, providing college-wide expertise on accounting and financial matters relating to operations and research.

**Nature of Work**:Reporting directly to the Chief Operations and Finance Officer, working closely with the WCVM Leadership, the Manager is responsible for providing financial and administration leadership to WCVM and the Veterinary Medical Centre. The Manager provides financial support to and works with leaders to develop and implement solutions that achieve priorities and outcomes. The Manager also provides leadership to the WCVM finance team, providing direction and supporting the financial management of the academic, clinical and research enterprise.

Relationships are at the heart of our work, and it is critical that we are confident, comfortable and effective in working across multiple, diverse and at times, challenging stakeholder groups. From academics to administration, research to operations, we work with all groups in identifying, planning, and implementing financial best practices.

**Accountabilities**
- Provides coordination support to departments to help ensure financial deadlines are met.
- Providing management support to executive team.
- Responsible for and participates in the oversight of the WCVM’s finances and financial systems;
- Provide strategic advice and support for budgeting, financial planning and analysis, including recommendations for the alignment between revenue sources and unit priorities;
- Provide regular financial reporting against budgets and plans;
- Coordination of year-end processes including, preparation and submission of year-end supporting documents;
- Annual reporting on reserves;
- Provide advice on budgeting, preparation of research reporting and financial oversight to support the research enterprise;
- Work with our college and clinic colleagues in human resources, facilities, laboratories and clinics to ensure effective financial management;
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with a variety of constituents across campus, including college and support centre staff, central office colleagues, and service centre partners to ensure success in meeting the college’s, unit’s, and university’s strategic and operational goals;
- Ensure that exposure to risk and liability is mitigated by ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, accounting standards, collective agreements, and university and unit policies and procedures;
- Provide and implement solutions that will improve financial procedures and processes, identifying opportunities for greater effectiveness;
- Present and convey accurate information and data to ensure financially viable and sustainable decision-making and problem-solving;
- Support procurement of significant goods or services and contracts;
- Ensures implementation of adequate internal controls to comply with University and College policies;
- Responsible for the leadership and management of the WCVM finance unit including oversight of workload and mentoring of finance staff, implementation of financial processes, initiating financial process reviews to ensure efficiency and improvements.

**Qualifications**
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in general accounting, financial management and budgeting, and financial planning and analysis.
- A mix of post secondary education such as a relevant university degree, preferably in Commerce, Business, Accounting or related field, along with a experience will be considered.
- Proven successful experience in a leadership role is considered a strong asset;
- A professional accounting designation is considered a strong asset;
- Experience working in a diverse and inclusive environment is preferred;
- Demonstrated knowledge of accepted accounting rules, practices, tax laws, and reporting requirements is required;
- An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
