The Office of International Affairs (OIA) coordinates, facilitates and communicates international engagement initiatives and activities at McMaster University. The coordinating role of the OIA is guided by the McMaster Model for Global Engagement which outlines the following priorities: Integration of international, intercultural, and global dimensions in the student experience; Support of international research and scholarship; Creation of a global identity; Strategic approach to international collaboration; Enhancement of internal coordination and communication. In 2022 the Vice Provost for International Affairs (VPI) initiated a plan to reposition the OIA to support the university’s mission more effectively. The strategic vision for Global Engagement through Inclusive Internationalization is anchored on four pillars - Student Experience and Mobility, Teaching & Learning, Research, and Global Impact.

This is a two-year contract.

**Job Summary**:
Responsible for assisting senior staff with tasks related to identifying, promoting, planning, and managing international engagement projects and initiatives. Analyzes project and initiative requirements and works with others to determine the required logistics, budgets, and fund allocations. Provide administrative expertise in writing proposals and ensuring proper documentation is provided for various projects. Negotiate and draft contracts and agreements with various parties securing cooperation and funding for international engagement endeavors.

**Purpose and Key Functions**:

- Conduct relevant literature reviews and environmental and institutional scans pertaining to international education to support grant writing.
- Ensure that proposals and funding agreements comply with University policies, protect the University from legal liabilities, and conform to the criteria and guidelines of the relevant program sponsoring agency.
- Provide support to senior staff when negotiating and drafting contracts between McMaster University and funders.
- Draft letters of recommendation for prizes and awards for researchers.
- Act as a liaison between the University and external sponsors concerning sponsors’ policies, regulations, and opportunities for funding opportunities that require an institutional signatory.
- Design and develop tools, guidance documents, University agreement templates and processes to manage funding competitions.
- Analyze project requirements and work with various stakeholders to determine project logistics and provide advice and guidance regarding project specifications and protocols.
- Negotiate and develop budgets with partners including other institutions, private sector, not for-profit, federal and provincial governments, and agencies.
- Develop solutions to address serious budget deviations.
- Scrutinize documents for small changes when critically reviewing project proposals and budgets.
- Develop and administer tools for qualitative and quantitative data collection, analyze data, and report on findings.
- Develop multi-party, multi-year budgets where cost-sharing includes proportional cash and in-kind contributions from the granting agencies and other University partners and monitor project budgets.
- Ensure compliance with progress reporting deadlines and requirements.
- Design and deliver a wide range of presentations and workshops.
- Update and maintain the department website ensuring the accuracy of online content.
- Plan and coordinate a variety of events and activities.
- Adhere to social and cultural protocols when meeting with international visitors.
- Exchange technical and scientific information amongst colleagues.
- Arrange, attend, and facilitate meetings with faculty, staff, and students.
- Collate and distribute mailings.

**Supervision**:

- Provide direction to others in how to carry out work tasks.
- Provides orientation and shows procedures to others.

Ensures adherence to quality standards and procedures for short-term staff.

**Requirements**:

- Bachelor's degree in international education/relations, Business, Administration, International Project management, or a related field of study.
- Requires 3 years of relevant experience.
