**CHIEF RETURNING OFFICER**

TMS ELECTION WINTER 2023/2024

The Toronto Metropolitan Students’ Union (TMSU) is seeking a Chief Returning Officer (CRO) to facilitate its Students’ Union elections between April 7th and April 28th, 2023

**Positions Available**: One (1)
**Start Date**: ASAP
**End Date**: April 28, 2023
**Compensation**: $5000
**Hours per Week**:20+

**Contract**: Contract - Temporary

**Description**:
**Requirements**:

- Applicants must NOT be a student at Toronto Metropolitan University
- Hours per week are flexible and based on the Election Period demands
- Applicants must be available for a set schedule of office hours between 10am and 6pm during the election period and available on voting days (April 11, 12, 13) from 10am -6pm.
- Applicants must be able to work flexible hours and evenings/weekends if needed.

**Duties**:

- Promote and plan for the elections;
- Hire, train, and supervise the (DRO) along with the Elections Committee
- Ensure the election process is organized in a manner which is fair, efficient and democratic;
- Enforce the election rules, make rulings where necessary;
- Facilitate the Election Debate;
- Complete a report about the 2023 elections process for presentation at the TMSU’s Board of Directors meeting at the close of the elections;
- Experience in a student-focused or membership-driven organisation and knowledge in the areas of governance, elections and by-laws;
- Adequate understanding of the goals and values of the student movement in Canada
- The following experiences in a membership-driven organization:

- Notable experience in staff management
- Notable experience administering elections and by-laws;
- Experience with organizing and supervising Student union elections within the last 3-5 years
- Notable experience managing membership campaigns within the last 5-3 years;
- The following abilities in a fast-paced and multifaceted work environment:

- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent Communication (tone, grammar, responsivity, directness) skills;
- Excellent Organizational skills (recording & time management) skills;
- Excellent Compositional (calming, sympathizing & neutralizing) skills;
- Working knowledge of: Microsoft Excel, Outlook, G Suite and database programs.
- Compensation of $5,000.00 will be paid in installments throughout the appointment term, with the final installment available upon presentation of the Election Report to the RSU Board of Directors.
