**_Strategic Public and Employee Communications (SPEC) Division_**:

- is responsible for communicating these programs and services to the public and City staff. SPEC is currently modernizing the model through which it delivers effective marketing and communications. Through a centralized, centres of excellence approach that nurtures growth and opportunities for its staff, SPEC will focus on proactive storytelling that puts the City and its divisions - as partners - at the centre. Integrated communications and marketing activities will align with the broader organizational strategy and drive measurable impact._

**We are looking for a politically and media savvy Chief Communications Officer to join our senior leadership team.**

The Chief Communications Officer will oversee all centralized communications functions for the City of Toronto, including partnerships, digital engagement, public education, marketing and creative, setting overall strategy and key performance indicators to ensure a future-focused and visionary strategic communications service presence for the organization - the largest employer in Toronto.

In this position, you will set the overall strategic direction of the Strategic Public and Employee Communications Division by establishing divisional goals, short-term and long-term objectives and priorities that are aligned with strategic planning initiatives and financial targets of the City of Toronto and Council priorities. In this high-profile and fast-paced role, you will work closely with the Mayor's Office, the City Manager, the Senior Leadership Team, the Corporate Leadership Team, as well as Executives, City Council, City Agencies and corporations and senior officials from other orders of government.

Joining the Division in the midst of the transformation, you will oversee the reorganization of the Division and provide leadership for structural changes, expert leadership in the development, implantation and maintenance of a centralized strategic communications function to ensure aligned messaging to the public, effective use of resources and timely and effective communication to all stakeholders.

You will lead, interact with, and benchmark other City programs, and senior federal, provincial and municipal officials. You will recommend and administer the annual budget for the Division, ensuring that Division expenditures are controlled and maintained with approved budget limitations, and develop and implement the City's strategic communications plan, ensuring input and collaboration from senior management and key stakeholders.

You will lead the City's emergency and major incident communications and respond to rapidly evolving situations in a fast-paced environment where you may be responding to major events, incidents, or emergencies in real-time, as required. Your team's responsibilities include organizing press conferences, technical briefings and providing onsite media relations, as required, as well as preparing City spokespeople for media interviews and public appearances and managing an effective media training program.

Often, you will be acting as the primary corporate media spokesperson and should be comfortable speaking on behalf of the City in various media outlets.
