The Team Lead - Immigration and Multicultural Relations works closely with the Director and the other team lead (Gender and Intersectionality) in order to provide leadership, strategic direction and support to the staff on each team within the Social Identity & Social Inclusion section.

In this position, you will work with community and the Director to develop short
- to long-term strategies and action plans that help build a growing city where every person can belong and contribute. You will provide oversight of the different pieces of work, including tactical and strategic response to complex and intersectional issues and you will provide caring leadership and support to front-line staff for issues management and day-to-day operations of the work.

- **Oversight & Strategy, Subject Matter Expertise**
- Provide operational support to the Director to make strategic business planning decisions, allocation of budget based on work plans, ongoing day-to-day operations of the team
- Provide Section and Branch level consulting service that supports section and corporate initiatives (including anti-racism, reconciliation, and diversity and inclusion)
- Provide strategic advice and guidance to the Director and Branch Manager in order to achieve priorities
- Collaborate with section teams to set strategic objectives/goals, approaches, and work plans
- Use evaluative, strategic and critical approaches from an inclusive and equitable lens to demonstrate business needs, achievements and opportunities for growth
- Project Management
- Due to the complexity of the work, including highly sensitive topics (immigration, settlement, and multiculturalism), this position will also have its own project management responsibilities
- It will oversee and lead (from project planning through to development and implementation) politically sensitive project work with the support of the Social Identity & Social Inclusion staff and internal/external partners
- The project work can be both internally focused and externally focused
- Support strategy and business planning activities including change management, facilitation and internal communication materials
- Research emerging trends and provide research/analytical support for special projects, prepare charts, graphs and textual presentations of data collected and summarize using standardized tools and methods
- Leadership
- Provide coaching and support to the staff
- Facilitate one-on-ones on a regular basis, schedule key performance meetings, and work with staff to develop performance and work plans
- Responsible for team building and ensuring connection among the team members
- Provide support and advice to the Director for hiring, onboarding and offboarding of staff
- Perform Acting Director duties as needed and/or required (opportunity for career development)

**Qualifications**:

- Resources, Public Administration, Commerce or a related field or degree is required. A graduate degree is considered an asset
- International education and experience are welcome
- 7 years experience in immigration/newcomers, equity, diversity & inclusion (EDI), multicultural relations or other relevant field
- A thorough understanding of anti-racism and cultural diversity frameworks
- Extensive experience working with diverse communities
- Knowledge of of anti-oppressive and anti-racism processes, policies and best practices
- Experience working in community and with political leadership; understanding the political landscape and political systems
- Personal leadership in diversity and inclusion by actively demonstrating the values and behaviours supportive of diversity and inclusion in the workplace
- Understanding and appreciation for the cultural aspects of the work and knowledge of cultural practices and protocols
- Experience with non-profit sector, community leaders and/or other levels of government
- Ability and experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Significant coaching/leadership skills
- Possess excellent political acumen
- Strategic thinker and problem solver
- Experience in challenging, complex and high pressure environments and/or tight timelines
