Within the Education Supports Sector, the Learner Services Branch conducts funding approvals, administers programs and services that impact the education of children and students.

**Role**:
Reporting to the Education Manager, this position functions within the parameters of applicable government and ministry legislation, regulations, policies, directives and procedures in order to administer programs and services that impact the education of children and students.

Within the Education Supports Sector, the School and Community Supports Branch houses the Office of Student Attendance and Re-engagement (OSAR). The OSAR unit provides leadership and support to school authorities to promote student attendance and re-engagement in learning.

The OSAR Team Lead is a key member of the unit that works directly with school authorities, families, members of the public, cross-ministry and community partners and the Attendance Board.

The OSAR Team Lead works collaboratively with school authorities to support them to address absenteeism.

**The OSAR Team Lead is assigned responsibility for the following**:

- Providing direct support/consultation to school administrators and central office staff seeking assistance to address individual matters of chronic absenteeism.
- Monitoring and completing required follow up on all open Attendance Board files.
- Identification of resources and materials that may benefit stakeholders collaborating with Education staff to ensure that the OSAR leverages existing work within the ministry to promote positive outcomes for students.
- Providing direct supervision to the OSAR Coordinator to ensure that the OSAR team and the Attendance Board have the supports they require to meet their respective mandates.
- Providing content expertise on development of legislation, policy, cross-ministry government strategic plans and initiatives.
- Supporting the development and implementation of strategies and initiatives based in evidence-informed best practices that seek to address chronic absenteeism.
- Researching and preparing briefing notes and recommendations to advance the work of the OSAR and the Attendance Board and support school authorities in addressing chronic absenteeism.
- Supporting the implementation and refinement of performance measurement for both the OSAR and the Attendance Board.
- Supporting the ongoing refinement and continuous improvement of the OSAR business processes.
- Collaborating with staff in other education divisions to develop policy and procedures that are responsive to the needs of clients and stakeholders.
- Collaborating with members of OSAR and the unit Manager to address emerging issues identified by stakeholders (school authorities and Attendance Board members) to ensure timely and accurate service.
- Establishing and maintaining strong communication and working relationships with key partners, clients, and stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate information flow and identification of issues.
- Developing briefing papers, activity status reports, action request responses and draft correspondence for the Minister and other senior ministry representatives in a timely manner.

**Qualifications**:
University graduation in a related field (Social Work, Education, Psychology) plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

**Equivalency**:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

**Assets**:

- The ability to influence, using tact and diplomacy
- Experience working under pressure and challenging situations with difficult stakeholders.
- Familiarity with issues facing children, youth and families experiencing chronic absenteeism
- Knowledge and/or experience with public agencies, board and commissions is beneficial.
- Intermediate Knowledge of MS Excel is desired.
- Experience in coordinating projects or programs, particularly geared to students at risk of attendance issues.
