Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director, Development at the Schulich School of Music (SSoM), the Advancement Officer (AO) performs a wide range of activities to meaningfully engage alumni, prospects, donors and other members of the McGill community with the SSoM in order to maximize philanthropic support for the SSoM and University. In alignment with University Advancement’s strategic objectives, the AO oversees implementation of short and long-term plans to maximize high-level alumni and donor engagement with SSoM and the University and its established alumni relations and annual giving programs. The AO acts as a stewardship resource for partners within the development unit and across the SSoM.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Qualify donors, obtain appointments, and solicit McGill Annual Fund/Leadership gifts.- Facilitate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including alumni, donors, students, parents and friends, while working across different areas within the University.- Analyze the SSoM’s pipeline to determine appropriate engagement strategies to move the faculty’s priority prospects through the giving stages.- Work with colleagues within the SSoM and with the central Alumni Relations team to enhance alumni/donor, student, parent and faculty and staff connections to increase awareness of philanthropy especially among student and young alumni populations, contributing to the growth of the prospect pipeline.- Identify, recruit, train and manage network of SSoM-based volunteers to assist with alumni engagement and fundraising activities. - meetings.- Lead the planning of events, such as Homecoming and philanthropy-themed events, that support the Dean and the SSoM’s strategic advancement objectives in collaboration with the Faculty-based development team.- Serve as the SSoM alumni relations designate for appropriate departmental, Faculty and University-wide committees. Act as project manager and key liaison between the faculty, central Alumni relations and other key stakeholders in the implementation and delivery of engagement strategies.- In collaboration with the Faculty stewardship officer developing materials supporting the stewardship of Special and Major and Primary donors to the Schulich School of Music.- Manage and oversee the annual fund donor acknowledgement program, ensuring timely and appropriate acknowledgements and regular refresh of content and assess if the programs being implemented meet the needs of the donors, in collaboration with the Central Donor Relations team.- Undertake responsibilities or special projects.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities- Advancement or sales experience required. Previous experience in a nonprofit environment as well as experience in cultivation and solicitation of donor prospects are an asset.- Demonstrated ability to maintain focus on long-term goals and relevant KPIs.- Demonstrated understanding of alumni relations and its importance in the development process.- Must be results driven, a self-starter, and highly motivated with an interpersonal style that fosters constructive and productive relationships with diverse constituencies.- Strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with alumni volunteers and colleagues about engagement and fundraising programs, procedures and university issues.- Must be client focused, with excellent organizational, attention to detail, problem solving, planning, and priority setting skills.- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects within tightly prescribed timetables and shifting priorities.- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as part of a team in a complex, changing, deadline-oriented environment.- Experience in program development, marketing, and project management.- Ability to analyze and read data, determining, and acting on trends.- Demonstrated ability in a PC environment, proficient using MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), client-server database software and sound knowledge of social media tools. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Strong French spoken, written an asset.
