_**Mid Island Co-op is hiring a Category Manager for our Administration Office located in Nanaimo, British Columbia.**_

**What you’ll do**:
Reporting to the Director, Liquor Operations, the Category Manager is the industry contact for all representatives of the assigned category(ies) and is responsible for managing a group or category of products for Mid Island Liquor. This role is integral to the development and success of specific products; and is responsible for managing the pricing and overall promotion of a product category to maximize consumer appeal. Duties include:

- Analyzing data or insights to determine industry and consumer trends.
- Devising long-term development strategies for product categories.
- Developing exit strategies for unsuccessful products.
- Fostering strong trust relationships with vendors to achieve better pricing and quality of services.
- Evaluating overall performance by gathering, analyzing and interpreting data and metrics. Determining listings for assigned category.
- Negotiating and maintaining competitive pricing and coordination of promotional activities of assigned product category(ies).
- Contributing to and reviewing policies and procedures that align with overall strategy.
- Forecasting for product demand to ensure the sustainability of inventory.
- Mentoring and motivating teams to achieve budgeted margin and sales targets.
- In conjunction with Area Managers, developing merchandising standards (display and shelf set standards) to be implemented at store level.
- Contributing to the business planning and budgeting processes for Liquor Operations.
- May provide coaching and feedback to Liquor Operations staff regarding assigned category.

**Who you are**:
You are looking for a career in Administration and:

- You have a Degree or diploma in business or other related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- You have extensive category knowledge, derived from 3 to 5 years’ experience in store operations; preferably operating in multiple demographics.
- Certified industry product knowledge considered an asset.
- You have a current Serving it Right certification.
- You have extensive experience understanding consumer needs in a retail environment.
- You have strong knowledge of marketing and sales principles.
- You have familiarity with all business functions including finance, supply chain and IT.
- You have experience with POS back office, data file management and BCLDB file structure.
- You have strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- You have excellent decision-making, analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- You have strong computer knowledge and skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
