**Role**:
Reporting to the Executive Director, Correctional Programs and Services Branch, Correctional Services Division, this position is responsible for direct administration and oversight of operations for the Alberta Parole Board (APB) and the Alberta Parole Board Secretariat (APBS). This position is critical to the effective administration of the APBS and to supporting the government’s mandate to help ensure that all Albertans can live in safe and secure communities. Recognizing that the Alberta Parole Board is an independent administrative tribunal, this position will ensure that all parole decisions are being made in compliance with legislation and policy. This leadership position may also provide management, direction and guidance to professional and support staff working in an array of branch programs and initiatives not specific to the APB or APBS.

To be effective in its role, the position must lead several intricate priorities within demanding timeframes and ensure effective processes are in place to meet legislative, regulatory and client requirements. This position must also ensure that the board operates within Alberta Public Agency governance policies as well as the APB Mandate and Roles and the APB Code of Conduct. Additionally, this position must ensure strategic and coordinated efforts are in place given the impact to efficacy and efficiency of service delivery across the Correctional Services Division.

Specifics Accountabilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

- Respond to external pressures from other areas of the criminal justice system and maintain strategies for effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders, external agencies and the Ontario and Quebec provincial parole boards and the Parole Board of Canada.
- Ensure the APB/APBS operates within the allocated operating budget and that budget forecasting is current and accurate.
- Ensure all APB members and APBS staff have full understanding of the APB Code of Conduct, the Mandate and Roles document and the code of conduct and ethics of the Alberta Public Service.
- Develop and organize delivery of Board training to ensure members are exposed to information and learning opportunities that are current and relevant.
- Organize and attend monthly Board meetings and an annual board meeting/training session.
- Oversee the development and delivery of updated provincial parole casework training to all provincial caseworkers/probation officer and continually examine existing practices and new approaches to conditional release planning and process.
- Lead completion of the APB Annual Report in accordance with legislation. Also ensure best practices are met and measuring for continual improvement.
- Explore and promote the use of technology in the parole hearing process to minimize the need for in-person hearings while providing structured, online interaction and dialogue between conditional release applicants and review panel members.
- As a member of the Canadian Association of Paroling Authorities, attend meetings, training opportunities, and participate in activities related to the paroling community in Canada and internationally.
- Administer at a senior level, operational support, change management and training across the division to improve operations and business effectiveness
- Ensures division programs provide services in a manner that reflects statutory requirements, department, division and branch priorities as well as correctional best practices.

**Qualifications**:
A university degree in a related field supplemented by a minimum of 7 years of related experience.

- Previous experience working with Boards and Agency oversight
- Previous experience working with the government stakeholders
- Program Service Management experience
- Project Planning experience
- Conditional Release experience

**Equivalency**
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 years of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year education.
