The SNOLAB research group at Carleton University in Ottawa has an immediate opening for a Financial Officer to lead the financial and administration efforts related to grant funded scientific projects in astroparticle and subatomic physics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Works closely with the Principal Investigator to develop short and long term strategic plans and administrative policies related to project funding, advising particularly on financial and human resources issues, and ensuring the effective operation of the department/unit as a whole.
- Prepare and monitor budgets which may each have different reporting requirements. Deadlines may vary from budget to budget at different times throughout the year, therefore managing multiple deadlines is critical.
- Financial management, including forecasting, reporting and analysis, to the Principal Investigator and department/unit managers as required.
- Ensure that all financial specifications are met as specified in any funding agreements entered between the various cost centers and external agencies.
- Working with external auditors and the preparation of draft financial reports or statements that may be required for external funding agencies.
- Provide supervision and technical/functional guidance to project administrative staff for purchasing and reconciling budgets. Schedule and assign work and oversee its completion. Coordinate and monitor workflow.
- Manage project's administrative procedures and develop procedures when required for approval by project management.
- Undertake other duties in support of projects.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor of Commerce or BA - Accounting or equivalent degree.
- 2-5 years of job-related accounting experience.
- Canadian Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) completed or in progress considered an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in standard accounting practices with proven budget management skills, account administration and project management.
- Knowledge of financial/PeopleSoft systems and an aptitude for managing financial systems.
- Experience in a supervisory capacity and previous work in a university or related environment will be considered assets.

The position will be based at Carleton University in Ottawa, ON.

Salary range is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
