The Ministry of Jobs, Economy and Trade is responsible for leading efforts to grow Alberta’s economy by supporting Alberta’s entrepreneurs and employers, promoting trade and investment, helping recruit and retain workers, and promoting safe, fair and healthy workplaces by:
**Jobs**: Helping attract skilled workers and establishing and enforcing Alberta’s employment standards and laws governing the health and safety of Alberta’s workplaces.
**Economy**: Supporting Alberta entrepreneurs, businesses and communities to drive growth and job creation.
**Trade and investment**: Attracting investment, promoting trade and supporting Alberta businesses’ abilities to access new markets.

**Role Responsibilities**:
This position analyzes, and reports on data from variety of sources to provide meaningful information for Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Employment Standards (ES) programs. The Analyst uses technical expertise to provide analysis, interpretation, and resulting recommendations to the leadership team. the position provides meaningful information for client areas to make business decisions and establish business priorities. The role works in close collaboration with unit/branch/division team members in the furtherance of excellence in OHS and ES program delivery and client service. The Analyst provides leadership and/or participates in related projects.

The Analyst must have an advanced understanding of: data and databases including limitations of existing databases; approaches and methodologies to link data reliably; quantitative data collection, analysis techniques, and statistics; and approaches for database development and management. The incumbent is expected to remain current with new approaches and technologies for reporting, data analysis, statistical modelling, data visualization and information dissemination.

Responsibilities include:
**1. Lead in the analysis and reporting of relevant data and metrics for OHS and ES.**
- Research and identify information sources (both qualitative and quantitative), tools, and reporting methodologies.
- Develop statistical models to support various policy and program design options, including efficiency, value-add and cost-effectiveness analysis.
- Analyze and evaluate data sets, interpret results, and present relevant reports.
- Present recommendations in a clear and concise manner with suggested solutions to support new processes and decisions.

**2. Create and/or modify data visualization products such as dashboards and maps.**
- Prepare data visualizations, briefing material, reports and presentations for management, information users or other stakeholders as required.
- Support the development and maintenance of dashboards to present key statistics and information regarding the performance of Alberta’s Employment Standards.
- Interpret data, provide context and meaning to data in a visual format.
- Create meaningful, highly aggregate, and easy to use information for reports and presentations using various presentation tools such as Excel, SAS (Statistical Analysis System), PowerPoint Presentation, Tableau, Xcelsius, Power BI and other dashboard software, etc.

**3. Participate and/or **coordinate** projects related to data analytics.**
- Initiate the project by defining the high-level scope and objectives, identifying stakeholders, coordinating sponsors and team members, guiding the creation of project charters, recommending necessary resources (internal resourcing and contracting funds) to complete the project, and obtaining the necessary authorization required to proceed.
- Execute project plan, implementing change management, and propose innovative solutions to mitigate emerging challenges and changes to meet the deliverable. Track, review, and regulate all activities and tasks as project progresses as well as coordinate resources (e.g. human, financial) assigned to the project communicate back to project specific leadership teams.

**4. Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure meaningful information is gathered and reported.**
- Work in close collaboration with unit/branch/division team members in the furtherance of excellence in program delivery and client service.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships, partnerships, and networks with Ministry and external stakeholders that support projects.
