**The Position**:
We are looking for a **temporary, fulltime People and Culture Generalist **for a 1 year contract position. Reporting to the Director, People and Culture, this position performs a number of functions relating to the effective operation of the People and Culture department. This role supports people programs, initiatives, and organizational objectives by acting as a first point of contact and providing guidance for employee engagement, performance management, investigations, employee development and policy interpretation. This role will also provide coverage for the People & Culture Specialist - Recruitment role.

The schedule for this role is Monday to Friday, based on a 37.5-hour work week.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
**Employee Relations**
- Provide assistance and advice to individual employees and departments in accordance with best employee relations strategies, legislation, and Agency and PC policies.
- Advocate for and support employees as needed and in consideration of Agency strategies and objectives.
- Provide coaching, advice, and feedback to the leaders with data-driven recommendations that help them improve team performance, retention, and the overall employee experience.
- Build the PC Department’s job profile throughout the agency and act as a resource for staff regarding PC related needs.
- Communicate with front line staff and leaders on a regular basis and share PC related updates.
- Assist with PC matters and support open and clear communication in teams to help foster a positive and respectful Agency culture and workplace.
- Conduct workplace investigations and provide recommendations on the best approach for the employee and Agency.
- Plan and manage grievances at the first level.
- Design and roll out employee surveys to provide people metrics and inform future people programs.

**Employee Engagement**
- Maintain a pulse on PC issues within programs (e.g., workplace experience, morale, group dynamics and engagement), monitoring for emerging issues and their impact on the successful function of programs; assess, evaluate, and recommend strategies to meet PC related needs, and identify training and development opportunities.
- Help analyze issues and provide evidence-based recommendations for enhanced employee engagement, productivity, retention, and overall wellness.
- Promote Rewards Program, WorkPerks, to ensure awareness and increase utilization of the program.
- Promote health and safety, including initiatives for employee mental and psychological health.

**Performance Management**
- Support continuous improvement for the performance management process to enable performance, establish consistency, and promote employee development.
- Support leaders in solving performance issues through effective coaching, problem solving and ensuring adherence to appropriate employment laws and policies. Provide support on disciplinary process and make appropriate recommendations; lead investigations as required.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Design and deliver training on Performance Management topics (e.g., goal setting, feedback, coaching).

**Other**
- Provide day to day guidance to the People and Culture Administrative Assistant.
- Advise on workplace accommodations within the disability management process.
- Support leaders with job description updates based on a current job analysis and the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other attributes required for job performance.
- Conduct exit interviews and provide recommendations to improve engagement and retention.
- Assist with agency-wide initiatives, including training and information sessions as well as special projects.
- Provide coverage for the People & Culture Director

**Qualifications and Skills**:

- Degree in Human Resources or related field; have a CPHR designation would be considered an asset.
