**Context**

The **Ontario Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Strategy (Oahas) **is an Indigenous-led organization committed to promoting and supporting healthy, thriving Indigenous communities through providing culturally grounded education and access to harm reduction to reduce the transmission of HIV and other STBBIs in our communities. Oahas operates based on the principles of Greater Involvement of People living with HIV/AIDS (GIPA), Meaningful Engagement of People living with HIV/AIDS (MEPA), “nothing about us without us”, Indigenous harm reduction, and respect for our cultural knowledges and teachings. These foundational principles guide all aspects of our relationships and work.

**Summary**

The role of the part-time Harm Reduction Support Worker is to provide culturally safe and trauma informed harm reduction and overdose prevention outreach and drop-in services for Indigenous peoples living in Toronto. This position will work closely with the Harm Reduction Lead (Toronto) to better meet the needs of people who use substances and are street-involved across the city. The Harm Reduction Support Worker will also work closely with Oahas Toronto’s Outreach Workers to include their expertise and lived experience to support both the program and agency to better meet the changing needs of community during the pandemic. This role will be supported by the Toronto Harm Reduction Lead, as well as the Site Supervisor to build individual, team, agency and community strength.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Prepare and distribute harm reduction supplies and resources
- Support harm reduction outreach (i.e., street/walking and van outreach) and outreach with partners
- Offer support, education, and training around safer drug using practices, overdose response, safer sex, infection prevention, and health promotion to community members who use substances
- Safe disposal / handling of used drug equipment as needed
- Work as part of a team by attending team and staff meetings, trainings, committee meetings, and regular supervision meetings
- Maintain boundaries with community members and co-workers while working
- Collecting statistics, and supporting data entry in OCASE, OCHART, and NEO and helping to write short narrative reports
- Support Site Supervisor and Harm Reduction Lead with inventory tracking, and ordering and organizing harm reduction and outreach supplies
- Other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**
- Competency and a good understanding of Indigenous culture and ways, teachings and history
- Lived Experience; experience working with people who use drugs and other substances
- Flexibility with schedule; ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed; committed to meeting program and members’ needs
- Familiarity with different neighbourhoods and histories community members frequent and drug-using networks
- Drug user positive and sex-positive attitude with anti-racist, harm reduction outlook

- Non-judgmental and willing to learn, adaptable
- Ability to accept feedback, and take initiative
- Works independently as well as in a team
- Ability to speak an Indigenous language is an asset
