Hockey Program Skills Coach & 18U Assistant Coach

Overview
Established in 1836 in Quebec, Canada, Bishop’s College School (BCS) is an IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and certificates. With a campus bordered by farmland and rolling hills on one side and by the city of Sherbrooke on the other, BCS is a small, welcoming community and a “home away from home” to students from 37 different countries. There is a long history of boys’ ice hockey at BCS. Currently, the BCS Elite Hockey Program is comprised of two age groups, 18U/Varsity and 16U/Prep; our Elite Hockey Program emphasizes the development of a well-rounded player through highly qualified and experienced coaching. These teams play high level competition across North America and have graduated players on to top Junior, NCAA and professional leagues.
The Position
This Coach will work under the direction of the Manager of Hockey Operations/18U Head Coach on all day-to-day activities, specific to the 18U program. This individual will also lead dedicated on ice skill sessions for both elite teams. This individual has the mandate to teach techniques, tactics, and strategies to players within the Elite BCS hockey program. The coach will strive to ensure the players obtain a rich life experience that combines academic excellence with competitive athletics, all in a stimulating multicultural environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute all dedicated on-ice skill sessions for 16U and 18U teams
- All things associated with assistant coach of the 18U hockey team
- Help design and execute practice plans
- Assist in the evaluation of players
- Help support and evaluate players for team selection
- Work flexible work hours on weekdays and weekends
- Correspond with all program constituents (parents, teachers, prospective students, families etc.) on a regular basis
- Help model and uphold school rules and policies for all members of the program
- Project a positive image of the student-athletes, program, department, and school through participation in community events and community building
- Help supervise all travel/team functions on weekdays and weekends
- Assist in the placement of our graduates to the next level of hockey/school
- Assist in planning and execution of BCS events (tournaments, camps, open houses, on campus visits etc.)
- Other duties as required
Abilities
- Strong interest in and personal commitment to coaching
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Efficient and courteous management skills
- Excellent organizational, accurate verbal and written communication skills in both official languages an asset
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure
- Strong personal integrity and character
- Self-starter and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to help load items including equipment on the bus up to 50 lbs
- Ability to move nets around on the ice
- Able to take part in daily on ice sessions with extended standing time
Education and Experience
- Hockey Canada or Hockey USA certifications an asset
- High school diploma
- High coaching or playing experience preferred
- Experience in working with teenagers an asset
- Proven track record, and a player-centric leadership style characterized by enthusiasm, integrity, and commitment
- Knowledge and experience in a school setting; private school or boarding an asset
- Demonstrated ability to foster and lead a respectful and inclusive work and team environment
