**Role**:
Are you passionate about biodiversity conservation and eager to make a meaningful impact on the environment? We are seeking a skilled Biodiversity Modeler to join our dynamic team and contribute to our ongoing commitment to responsible resource development and environmental sustainability.

As Biodiversity Modeler, you will play a crucial role in assessing, analyzing, and predicting the impact of various factors on biodiversity in a land use planning context, ultimately supporting the development of strategies to minimize impacts on key biodiversity values. In this role you will conduct research and collect data to develop, run and validate models that assess the impact of various factors on biodiversity, including habitat loss, climate change and human activities. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide scientific advice and recommendations to support policy development and decision making. Duties include but not limited to:

- Creating a provincial framework for using biodiversity models and methods to evaluate cumulative impacts and inform planning processes at different scales.
- Providing scientific guidance and expertise in biodiversity modeling and management.
- Serving as a scientific authority and resource for the department and the ministry in the field of biodiversity modeling and management.
- Identifying and prioritizing knowledge gaps and research needs in biodiversity modeling and designing applied research and monitoring programs to address them.

**Qualifications**:
Ph.D in a related scientific field such as biodiversity, ecology, or natural resource management plus two years of work experience in modeling.

Required:

- In-depth scientific knowledge in one or more fields related to biodiversity modeling and management including landscape ecology, wildlife biology, plant ecology, conservation biology, climate change science, cumulative effects, species-habitat models, or systematic conservation planning tools.
- Highly developed computer modeling/geospatial and statistical analysis skills, including experience with large terrestrial ecosystem data sets.
- Leadership skills to motivate multi-disciplinary groups of professionals (within and outside the Government) and build confidence and credibility across government, industries and communities.
- Ability to establish contacts and build relations in the research and professional community to resolve scientific issues.
- Strong project, time, and organizational management skills to effectively balance multiple demands.
- Ability to respond to changing priorities and timelines as well as handle multiple tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.

Assets:

- Proficiency in Python and R.
- Knowledge of development of environmental objectives, policies and regulatory alternatives to manage land and biodiversity, including understanding practices in other jurisdictions.
- Understanding of policy integration (environment, economy, society), risk assessment and multi-objective assessment.
