**The opportunity**:
The NCTR Access and Privacy Assistant (the “Assistant”) assist the NCTR Access and Privacy Coordinators and the intake research team. They help facilitate access to the records held by the Centre. This work would consist of preliminary organization and review of records relevant to inquiries and requests from residential school Survivors, their families, and the general public. This position would also assist with the proactive disclosure of records held in the Centre’s archival collection. Additionally, this position compiles statistics and data. This position provides support to all archival and research areas of the NCTR. The position involves working with sensitive information, and a high degree of confidentiality is required.

**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:

- High School diploma required.
- A minimum of three years' experience working within an office environment required.
- Experience working with Indigenous organizations, peoples, Elders, and communities is required.
- Experience with the review and redaction of documents required.
- Experience with archival functions, such as organization, and description including metadata required.
- Experience in dealing effectively and diplomatically with varying levels of staff within the organization and the public, and ability to foster harmonious working relationships with other staff, both academic and support, is required.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills required.
- Excellent document management skills required.
- Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, and patience to work in harmony with all levels of faculty, staff, students, and the public in a highly confidential environment required.
- Ability to exhibit cultural sensitivity, open-mindedness and flexibility is required.
- Ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials is required.
- Ability to work independently and undertake work as directed is required.
- Ability to plan and prioritize diverse tasks with attention to detail required.
- Self-motivated and proficient in multi-tasking to meet competing deadlines.
- Ability to keep sensitive matters confidential required.
- Ability to think analytically, anticipate and resolve problems required.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to Indigenous cultures, contemporary and historical issues including the legacy of Canada's Indian Residential School System.
- Ability to speak an Indigenous language and/or French is asset.
- Experience or interest in working with a university or other educational institution.
- Familiarity with The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act ("FIPPA"), The Personal Health Information Act ("PHIA"), and The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation Act ("NCTR Act").
- Familiarity with The University of Manitoba and The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation.
