Archives Data Coordinator - Information Technologist 3 (AESES)Existing Budget-Funded Continuing Full-Time35.00 hours/week Monday to Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pmSalary Range: $32.90 per hour ($59,168.00 per annum)Proposed Start Date: June 10, 2024Trial/Probation Period: 840.Understands and applies the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) model, including the ISO standard 16363 as they both relate to the coordination and creation of digital archival packages that itemize and control digital object content, preservation metadata, associated rights, and the completeness and correctness of digital objects.- Understands the importance of the PREMIS standard for preserving digital materials and how this applies to the concept of a decolonizing archives.- Collaborates with the Archives team to oversee the activities of the digital preservation strategy, including acquisition, ingestion, preservation, information management, and access as they relate to the Archivematica open-source preservation software suite.- Provides training and develops training materials and support onboarding of new NCTR staff utilizing the NCTR Archives' digital platforms.- Acts as a liaison between end-users and Information Systems Technology (IST) technical analysts and programmers.- Identifies, analyses, and solves or reports software defects to IST or Artefactual (AtoM and Archivematica developer).- Contributes to the structure of the AtoM database, its content, and the most effective approach to generating statistical outputs related to archival collections, such as the National Student Death Register.- Maintains a broad up-to-date knowledge of the AtoM and Archivematica software suites through individual self-study and research, attendance at webinars, training sessions, and conferences.- Assists the Senior Archivist and Head of Archives to draft procedural workflows for digital procedures.- Assists in research in support of digital projects and inquiries.- Trains, supervises, and oversees the work of student interns and part-time employees as relates to archival preservation, accessioning, arrangement, and description activities.- Ensures software updates are implemented on applications.- Follows new developments in digital preservation and access technologies including new preservation formats, processes, and applications.- Takes in newly acquired records following international standards and NCTR policies and procedures for the transfer of new materials to ensure they are properly preserved while awaiting appraisal.- Applies the Canadian Archival Accession Information Standard (CAAIS) to all new acquisition metadata.- Provides access to records to NCTR staff via the creation and maintenance of user profiles in the NCTR's archival database AtoM, and provides technical support and training for this open-source software.- Works with residential school Survivors and Indigenous communities to ensure their voices and perspectives are present in the NCTR Archives and ensures that digital content going to or coming to the Centre from Indigenous communities are transferred following the NCTR's standard operating procedures.- Develop relationships/contacts with other institutions using the same or similar software, as directed by the Senior Archivist.- Contributes to the development and maintenance of policy and procedure manuals as required.- MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:- A Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field required.- EXPERIENCE:- A minimum of three years' experience working within an archive or related academic library experience required .- Extensive experience providing training and support for users of open-source content management systems, including AtoM and Archivematica required.- Extensive experience in data migration, arrangement and sorting of data and database maintenance required.- Extensive experience working with high volume data sets from diverse sources required.- Extensive experience on data projects of highly sensitive, personal information required.- Experience working on Indigenous community health projects with a focus on high volumes of data required.- Excellent working knowledge of computer systems, security, network and systems administration, databases and data storage systems, and phone systems required.- Experience working with Survivors, Indigenous communities, and academic researchers regarding access to records and information required.- Knowledge of Open Source data management applications AtoM and Archivematica required.- Excellent project management skills and strong ability to prioritize required.- Strong depth of expertise in open source software applications, both implementation maintenance required.- OTHER JOB RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:- Ability to speak French or an Indigenous language would be an asset;- Understanding of research engagement with Indigenous communities.- Knowledge of University policies/procedures would be an asset;
