**Your opportunity**:
Under the supervision of both the Academic Director and Executive Director of the School of Cities, the Research Officer will be responsible for overseeing the workflow of the School’s research programs; project managing our funded research teams; actively seeking grant opportunities and drafting grant submissions; and collaborating on knowledge translation of the urban research produced across the University of Toronto. Working closely with the team at the School of Cities, the Research Officer will develop and manage collaborations with researchers within the University and in the broader community of urban researchers in government and urban-focused organizations. The Research Officer will help faculty and researchers translate insights for a wide range of audiences via policy briefs, discussion papers, presentations, workshops and seminars, as well as, identify funding opportunities and write grant proposals. Additional responsibilities include building relationships to generate engagement opportunities and managing research and advisory projects.

The Research Officer will maintain an up-to-date understanding of urban-related issues and expertise in the relevant policies, practices and research literature and develop a comprehensive view of urban research being conducted across the University. Provide advice and guidance to School of Cities-supported research from a community-centred perspective, grounded in principles of community-engaged research. They will liaise with faculty, academic administrators, staff and students on the School’s research mandate, programs and initiatives.

**Your responsibilities will include**:

- Overseeing day-to-day operational needs and service delivery requirements of programs
- Assessing needs and contributing to the planning of research goals
- Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting
- Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
- Delivering presentations to promote programs, opportunities and/or initiatives

**Essential Qualifications**:

- Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Political Science, Public Policy, or closely related field, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum five years recent and related research administration experience in an urban/public policy-focused department of the University or urban research organization, or government department with a municipal focus, overseeing a range of concurrent research programs.
- Demonstrated excellence in knowledge translation of academic research and scholarly activity, that delivers change-oriented insights to organizations involved in urban affairs (cities, governments, private and/or public sector).
- Superior research, writing and communication (oral and written) skills, demonstrated ability to write and edit reports and to prepare and present ideas and analysis to a diverse range of academic and non-academic audiences.
- Experience in policy writing and government relations communications.
- Experience in urban planning, city-building and city-related issues.
- Experience with research design and managing complex data collection and analysis approaches.
- Experience writing successful research grant proposals and reports resulting from research studies.
- Experience organizing seminars, workshops, colloquia.
- Experience managing multiple projects and project teams.
- Experience with RIS and grants administration.
- Superior research, writing and communication (verbal and written) skills, demonstrated ability to write and edit reports and to prepare and present ideas and analysis to a diverse range of audiences.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet strict and competing deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, collaborative skills; demonstrated ability to establish positive working relationships at all levels.
